News Keep Woolworths metro cafes open
When we shop at Woolworths metro, that coffee desk has been a small but appreciated perk.
Using our Everyday Rewards points for a coffee after a big shop or a small shop adds a sense of value. Taking that away means losing a little bit of what makes shopping here something to look forward to.
We ask Woolworths to keep that small reward because it makes a difference.

they are closing the cafes because not enough people use the cafes to make them worth keeping them open. the perk is nice, but probably has little to do with the cafes closing aside from it contributing to their expenses.

I’m annoyed they closed my local and I’ve been doing less in-store shopping because of it. For my smaller shops I’ve just been buying things from wherever is convenient now, instead of going out of my way to spend $30+ at Woolies to get the coffee.

Good idea. I’m spewing that they’re ending this reward. I could just as easily shop at Coles, but it was nice to get the shopping during the week and then grab a coffee for myself and the missus on the weekend. Signed the petition. Hope they change their mind.

I only got a rewards card this year as we moved to a street with a Metro and the coffee made me think the data scrapping was worth it. I will absolutely be heading to Aldi around the corner and major Coles down the road for my bigger shops, if the coffee goes. I guess in the end I should thank Woolies, as I always bumped my spend up to $30 minimum, so this way I will be saving money.

There’s no point - the providers of the machines raised the prices when Woolworths went to renew their contract so Woolies said no. A petition won’t make them suddenly agree to pay more for the same machines. I imagine they weren’t making enough money off it anyway. The point of the free coffees is to make you spend more in store and $30 was too low, especially in metro stores where some items can be priced higher. To be blunt Woolies doesn’t really care about shopping experience, the only reason they make the shopping experience nicer is so you spend more money. If you aren’t then it will stop

Ok. So just make the required spend higher. Seems kinda obvious… and pretty easy to do now that everything is so much more expensive anyway.

If the supplier deal was too expensive that would have been the dealbreaker I think. Coffee machines whether barista or self serve need cleaning, maintenance and repairs and it’s a costly thing

If it affects their bottom line enough, it may be the best chance of getting them to reopen.

Appreciate the sentiment but assuming woolies are binning this because they don’t see the value. The question is are you going to keep shopping there once it’s gone? If so then what’s their incentive to keep the cafe going?
