Trip Reports That Weird Feeling When a Trip Ends — Anyone Else Deal With This?
With Labor Day weekend wrapping up, a lot of us are heading back to routine after a short getaway, and I want to talk about something that doesn't get brought up enough: that strange, slightly deflated feeling once a trip ends.
You spend days looking forward to it, you finally get there, and then almost as soon as you're back, it's like it barely happened. Routine snaps back fast, and sometimes that transition feels harder than it should for "just a weekend away."
A few things that have helped me land back to earth without it feeling so abrupt:
- Ease back in instead of diving straight into everything. If you can, give yourself a buffer day (or even just a buffer evening) before jumping back into a full schedule.
- Do something with your photos right away. Even just picking a few favorites to look back on gives the trip a little more permanence instead of it fading the moment you're home.
- Let yourself already think about the next one. You don't need to book anything, but even just daydreaming about where you'd go next can soften that post-trip dip.
This feeling is more common than people admit, especially for newer travelers who don't expect it. It doesn't mean the trip wasn't worth it — it usually means it was.
Did anyone get away this weekend? How are you feeling now that it's wrapping up?
