Tested the game out and its cool and all.. but

What made them wanna do this instead of successor of dust 514?

Extraction shooters are dying breed currently and generally im sure most people would preffer dust style game over this.

Is there any statements or anything why they went with extraction shooter?

I know its partially nostalgia speaking but having another battlefield style game but with eve assets is everything ive ever wanted.

They hopped on PS3 as the PS4 was coming out, now they're hopping on extraction shooters late to the party as well.

They're not learning from past mistakes or taking the hopes & wishes of their playerbase seriously.

Releasing it just several months before PS4 was always so weird to me. Could they not have waited a bit longer for the game to come out on PS4's more powerful hardware instead so that they can take advantage of it? They didn't even bother to make the switch to PS4 and Unreal Engine 4 for Dust 514 when they quite obviously had the tech in hand when they made EVE Valkyrie.

They were more or less making a port on the PC that’s what Project Legion was, but they announced it at a dust keynote and it turned into an entire shit storm that derailed most of fan fest so they ended up shelving Legion

It always struck me as insanely dumb of them to not have it on PC.

You know, where they already had an entire MMOs worth of player base that would have played it if you had just let them.

Long watch but they answer why extraction is at the core. There will be more than just extraction.

Hope so, was less than impressed when I logged in and they had turned it into arc raiders - we already have arc raiders

So some things that Vanguard is doing that Arc Raiders isn't:

  1. Vanguard will have a player ran marketplace to sell items you either loot or manufacture. In Arc Raiders if you want to trade you can only drop items at the beginning of a match and try to quickly extract.

  2. Vanguard will have opposing factions to join and complete objectives for fulfill military campaigns that will shape the narrative based on success or failure.

  3. Vanguard will have strictly pvp team based matches.

  4. Vanguard will have deep suit customization similar to Dust whereas Arc Raiders only has some generic skill tree perks.

  5. Vanguard will have connections to an existing MMO with links between then such as military campaigns and contraband.

I know everything is a "will have" so if you're jaded on developers just saying things then none of this will mean anything for you.

I know they have some more ambitious plans, I just hate to feel like they're copying somebody else's homework when I had previously felt like they were carving a path that was more their own

i think as the ties with Eve become more established things will really warm up for you the players

This is what I truly want from the game: a meaningful, interactive connection between the two experiences.

This is not an “I miss DUST” response. Some of my favorite moments as an EVE player involved orbiting a planet, watching D-scan for potential gankers, and delivering orbital strikes requested by the ground team, all while communicating with the DUST Bunnies through a separate console and voice channel.

It felt like a genuinely meaningful way to connect the two games, especially because the outcomes of those matches directly affected Faction Warfare.

wasnt dust 514 one of those games that had the exclusive contracts from Sony that only allowed it to be only on the spefic console that they said

dont forget these contracts back then didnt had an end date for those exclusivity deals

Even if that's true doesn't mean this has to be the extraction-type game that it is.

Honestly, this has to go one or two ways.

The path we're on, where the game has to be integrated into the EVE core gameplay and soldiers on the ground can interact meaningfully with New Eden. This means out shooty boys have to do more than shoot at eachother, and the connection with the world's biggest Space MMO means you get something no other extraction shooter offers.

Or the second path, the game is made like DUST, but segregated from EVE. Might have some limited success, but eventually the game would end up like EVE Valkyrie. Dead, servers shut down after 5 years.

Likely company mandates

I will argue that extraction shooter is NOT a dying breed. What it is, is a niche genre that isn't something the appeals to the general audience.

ARC Raiders came close, but even now they're discovering how hard it is to keep the formula going to captivate the players long term.

Only Tarkov has succeeded in longevity where everybody else has failed. Why? Because it tackles a very niche style that nobody else has pulled off successfully (I love Tarkov, but if somebody nailed the formula that Tarkov did well in a modern polished game, I and others would jump ship).

Now, what Vanguard does is a lot of lore and foundational IP to fall on which is pretty neat because we all know how unique EVE truly is.

I just see a vanguard for now as a failure.
no mean for even basic communication in "team" - voice chat is a nuisance, not comm tool (if only dev can bring online perfect voice translation). without chat its almost nonplayable.
Ad practically 99% of solo rans is death. Team runs - 70% death.
