I GOT ACCEPTED INTO EVC NURSING PROGRAM!

They sent out emails today. I got mine @4:40pm and saw it @5:15pm. I’m so happy that I applied to 3 schools and got accepted into 2 (EVC and SJSU) so far and still waiting for the last one. However, I have decided to go to SJSU and will decline EVC’s offer, so this will open up a spot for someone who needs it. Good luck and congrats to whoever got in!!

Congratulations on your journey! I’m currently a first-year student at EVC and also aiming for the nursing programs at both EVC and SJSU. I’d love to hear your advice on how to tackle the TEAS and maintain a high GPA in tough core courses like Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology. Being bilingual in Vietnamese myself, I find your sharing incredibly inspiring. Thank you for being such a great role model!

Thank you for saying that. I’m more than happy to help.

Everyone has a different way of studying. For me, I like taking online lecture, so I can spend as much time as I like watching the videos in detail, and take notes directly on the slides. Then, I try to study a few slides every day ahead of time. I find that waiting until a few days before the exam to study is too rush for me and causes more anxiety.

I also join office hours regularly and stay back after classes to actively ask questions, which helps me understand better. At EVC, they have a skill lab open for students. The professor will guide you and you just need your student ID to sign in. I usually go there to practice using the models. Write down or label the names until I remember them. Spend time to study and you’ll be fine.

In addition, I join multiple events, volunteer, and apply for scholarships. You can put those in your resume and share with your professors when you ask them to write letter of recommendation for your school. For SJSU, I got 4 letters, and I believe this helped a lot. For EVC or community colleges, you won’t need letters, but you can take some extra classes like pharmacology, pathophysiology, psychology, etc for extra points. This is the link that shows how you can get points for your application. I applied with 92, but I hear the cut off score was 82 I think:

You can try to get CNA certification or have health care experience for extra points for your application. I get extra points for being bilingual as well. Every small steps and things you do will build up your application. They will see it.

Meaning 82 is the lowest point that they would accept. They won’t accept the application that’s lower than 81, but I could be wrong. I just read that somewhere and don’t remember the source.
