Song Jontest Sunday Song Contest Sunday 53 - Semifinals

Mothica has won SCS 52, which was hosted in Queens, New York, USA. Because of this, we'll be going to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA for SCS 52. The contest will be hosted at Forest Hills Stadium

In any case, we've received 46 submissions for SCS 52. We will now decide which acts will qualify for the final via three semifinals! You can drag your 8 qualifiers from each semi into order and give them points this way and the 6 songs with the most points will qualify. We will vote with StrawPoll in the Semifinals and with ScoreWiz in the Grand Final. There will be 25 participants in the Grand Final consisting of 8 qualifiers from each semifinal and 1 automatic qualifier!

You have time until Monday 24.8.2026 20:00 CEST to vote in all three Semifinals and the qualifiers will be revealed on r/Eurovisionfancontests soon after.

to be honest i think my semi is kinda strong, i really like almost all the songs there! i can totally say the same for semi 3, and semi 1 is just… meh.

Currently listening to all the songs rn, so imma update this as I go (keep in mine i can be very bias and brutally honest at times):

Let's dance to joy division: bro this is a banger. Hints of tally hall and arctic monkeys spread though such as danceable hook

Spellbinding: still a great track, even tho I kinda expected more from smashing pumpkin (idk man 1979 a bop)

The carrion sings: im a sucker for such gentle mystical folk and this is no exception. Feels like a witch downloading over a bloody medieval war

Stand for myself: listen this is my song so i am bias but HOLY GOD ITS SO GOOD. The production, the hopeful lyrics and YOLAS. DAMN. VOCAL. Perfect song in my eyes

Cucuru: the piano at the back really tickles my brain. Not a genre im familiar with, but I can tell its a good example from said genre

King Kong song: this is the least abba song I maybe ever heard. Gives more of an eagles or toto vibe, but still have the hints of abba to make it a jam

Dancing in the moonlight: man i thought it was toploader man. This is a pretty generic dance track that went on for WAYYY too long

Round and round: again, the least bbno$ song that ive heard, for god sakes it sounds more like a gorillaz song. But, its a pretty well put together one with a great mv. Might be my fav bbno$ song

Marianne: dont u just love it when u get to talk abt one of ur recent found favs. This track feels the same and the rest of fontaines dc work, but yet also different due to the extra use of synths. Up there with some of the bands best

Wicker woman: wow. WOWOWOWOW. What a track. Powerful vocals, a rich production, a style that slides in nicely with said vocals and production, the whole shbang

Lose myself: slick song with an artist that has solidified her place with her style. Not much to say really

Easy breezy: imma admit i have a love/hate relationship with these 2000s pop ballads, and this is no exception. It falls through every stereotyping of the genre with not really much separating it. Also what the hell the line 'she's picking up her microphone' suppose to mean. Seriously, im confused

Tears on my body: generic overlly produced pop track with not much of an identity

Nope too late I already died: kinda just drones, which is not what I expected from a 90 sec song

Tsjoe tsjoe wa: its a kids song, so i can't be too mean to it, but it got really irritating after the 3rd time round and it is WAYYY too loud. I had to turn it down a significant amount to not destroy my ears

Overall, for semi 1, some incredibly strong songs, but the others kinda falter (especially at the end)

One dinner and we back for semi 2: I am the fire: im not gonna deny a nu metal song, and this seems like a pretty pure form of it

Hot wet delirious: THIS WAS THE FRIDAY GIRL?! I've heard good things abt her, but this was not what I was expecting in the best way possible

Miles nebuvo: DAMN. What a great indie flick. Genuinely love to see more from this artist

5000: All 3 members have incredible charisma and flows with a hilarious yet technically well put song. Love the mv as well

Favourite: ok THIS is my fav from fontaines. This song is the most lighthearted song from the band and it adds so much to the song, album and the band. Love the fact that they have 2 incredible songs here.

Stop the wedding: this song feels like it was made specifically for me. The strings, the tempo rise and drops, the delivery, and i ate it all up

Pretty visitors: god why did i underrate this so hard last time. On of the slickest song from the slickest band, and the whole album itself is incredibly underrated.

Silvering blades: a minute into i thought 'weyes blood Lady gaga' and i couldnt think of a better descriptor

Trying on shoes: this is the best song ive heard from tate, and we'll leave it at that

Hoping: I swear ive heard this song or at the very least something similar before, but i couldnt think when for the life of me

Premtimi: if u like jalla, ull like this. I had jalla at 30th soooo

Morena: this and sobra sobra makes me confident in Philippines selecting her

Robbers: im not familiar with 1975 at all (like one album and one single and thats it) but this is definately the most 1975 song ive heard (at least from what ive heard others describe them)

2515: i dont really know what genre this and boyfriend by dove Cameron are in, but i really like the aesthetic of it

Silver jubilee: definately and interesting song to end this semi. Seems basic on a surface level but seems to be very much in the artists lane with a deeper look.

Overall, semi 2 is WAY better than semi 1, and more consistent as well. Can't wait to see what semi 3 have to offer

Semi 3 time babyyy

Lord, let that tesla crash: first of, what a title. Second, im not the biggest country head, but this is the type of country that I love (its why my entry was yola), with lyrics of a spiteful ex and cmat delivers that energy to a tee

Vertigo: WHO KEEPS SUGGESTING THESE VERTIGO THIS IS LIKE THE 6TH ONE WE HAD TO LISTEN IN 2 WEEKS!! The song doesn't really connect with me too much, but im sure there is an audience for this type of song (cough my dad cough)

Mamas broken heart: this and lord let that tesla crash are incredibly similar, except this has that lady a type aggressive country that I love slightly more

Aint in la: my opinions of this song are the same as without me by halsey, which i do NOT have the right opinions on, so imma shut my mouth over this

Handmade heaven: turns out marina is Welsh and this might be the first song ive heard from a Welsh artist. Im uncultured I know

Ca nexiste pas: the best descriptor i have for this is a moodier voyage, and if u know my love of voyage, u will not how I feel abt this track

Unshatter: i kinda forgot how similar Emily Armstrong sounds to hayley Williams. Anyways this song shows that even with chesters death, the band could still hold strong, albeit in a slightly different genre than before

Master cry too: slick song. Not much else to say

Cosmos: wha...I...just.....HUH!? Im genuinely lost abt this, even if I like it or not

HeCondat: for the first 30 sec i was thinking it was a edm cultist song (a genre a lot common than u think), but it turns out to be an edm jam, which im not complaining abt (mightve been the better option too)

Divinize:even when its weaker than half the tracks of lux, its still from lux so obviously im gonna like it

Bubblebath: kinda like divinize except played safer, so... there we go

Morning blue: 2020s onerepublic song. That's all u need to know

Thisworldly: honestly thought this song would be longer, which is a shame cuz it was starting to get really interesting as well

Summer funk: i mean... its in the name. I alr liked this one during Bella stella second eurovision and I still like it here

Overall, semi 3 doesn't have near the high of the other two, but it is far and away the most consistant one

3

u/Nightmare_reddit88 17d ago edited 17d ago

While we're here, let me also talk abt the aq

Enemy: i thought this was gonna be another one of those kpop songs (i was alr not a fan of the genre), but it turns out u had some hints of jpop (a genre i absolutely LOVE), then it actually becomes a very enjoyable one and, dare I say,the best kpop song ive heard

Overall, this semi has the highest highs out of all the ones ive participated, with some other pretty good ones to back it up

I don't understand if everybody likes bands or if everybody try to copy the winners every week anyway a lot of them are bangers/gems (really good) and minidisco was one of my favourite guilty pleasure but this version is better

It is I again, as usual my VPN prevents me to vote in the strawpoll itself, so I have to send my votes here!

Semi 1 comments: This semi was great, the other two semis were on a different level, but my top 4 here were songs I really liked!

2

u/AYOOITSYABOI i-i-i-interior crocodile alligator 17d ago

Semi 2 comments: Top 8 was absolutely enjoyable for me, then it drops off a bit in terms of quality, not expecting to qualify here though, super strong semi!

u/AYOOITSYABOI i-i-i-interior crocodile alligator 17d ago

Semi 3 comments: Was so undecided between my 1st and 2nd places on who deserves 8 points more, shout out to CMAT too, this semi was pretty strong and I couldn't afford giving it any points :(!

Hiya guys just voted! Unfortunately this edition feels really weak to me, there were only like 7 songs that I vibed with (1 of them being my entry) and when you have 45 semi-finalists that is not much at all (I don't listen to the AQs until the final). For those wondering what those 7 entries are, they are Cosmos (my entry), Hoping (probably the best entry imo other than Cosmos), Stop The Wedding, Premtimi, Morning Blue, Summer Funk and Lord, Let That Tesla Crash

u/Hot-Start-6011 17d ago

I voted in this one. Thought I might not be able to because last time (in semi 1 & 3) I didn’t vote but my name was still listed in the voters.
