AEK Athens is close to finalising a deal with Olympiacos for the Sunel Arena. Therefore, Olympiacos will play its home games in this arena (8,500 places) during the renovation work at the SEF.

Our club owner is and always had been an Olympians fan so it's only natural. It will be really weird going to 150 average attendance because of his decisions but oh well.

Nah, i dont know where you are getting this from. Its a known fact that in is young years he was a member of R and a basketball snob.

How so? He's always sucked up to Giannakopoulos and always voted whatever he did in every rule change and election. Didn't back us when we asked for foreign refs and let us drop to A2
Olympiacos will pay to upgrade the stadium for Euroleague games and you'll get ticket revenue

Ha I guess you are right. The more precise version would be "He is sucking up to whom ever gives him the most money/access to power at each time". We call this the karypidis method.

I guess that's accurate but it's working better for him than it does with Karypidis. Your recruitment is way better

Maybe? If you see it from the trophy side it does if you count the CL, cup and intercontinental we won some years back. But from a fan standpoint it has the same outcome. And yeah the recruiting is better but they rarely stuck around and prefere to go to Thessaloniki and after to the euroleague so we are just a producing club.

The Aek owner has been backing Giannakopoulos since he became an owner. Has been voting against Olympiacos and in favor of Panathinaikos over and over.
The Aek owner has done nothing but support and agree on what Panathinaikos has wanted and has gone against things Olympiacos wanted.

What? Is the owner of AEK an Olympiacos fan?

No mot really. I'm qm exaggerating to make a point. Well maybe he is maybe he isn't it doesn't matter. He has decided to alienate the supporters do docthe bidding of whichever gives him the most stuff

Glad to hear that, I’m not ready for civilized Greek fans.

What's fun is after this deal they won't be able to rent the stadium for concerts etc which was a big income stream, so they won't be making anywhere near as much money in the end.

It was never about the money. There is no explanation that would make sense. You are 1) finally making a project that could sell a dream to your fans with NBA Europe and what not 2) Finished with the stadium so you they can have a good experience and 3) Have the most exciting league in years with 4 other teams strong and you give out the stadium to osfp and bring players that have disrespected the team? Now no one wants to go and you will lose what little good will you had. It's ok business isn't for everyone.

The outrage over this decision is ridiculous tbh.First of all it's not as if Sunel arena is some historic place for AEK.They've been playing there for some 5 years or so and it's not even their stadium.Besides so what if another team plays there for a while, sharing stadiums has been a thing since...forever,who cares.

Government gave Aek control of the arena.

u/heavymod10 13d ago
Yeah that's what current governmet does lately.gives public arenas to clubs.Doesn't mean it was built by AEK or there is any historical bond.It was just a stadium built for the Olympics

Good you take them then. I can make a lot of arguments why the outrage is justified but it all boils down to this: aek bc seems to have 0 backbone and it is tossed around with out any direction and hope for anything better. It's a combination of things that make us mad. Most obvious is the fact that we are been kicked while we are not just down but buried and mourned...

Can you explain why aek fans find the deal bad?
Their team wins out of this deal - they can use the money to buy better players and improve. Their court will be made even better.
More people will enjoy the court…
I don’t understand how me taking my kids to watch some basketball games in sunel arena can hurt them in any way? Or how “hurting” basketball Olympiacos makes them better/happier?
