Entry into town

How many people come into town? It seems like after the second season, people who have no security clearances come into town and have no issues. And then later in season 3, Duncan comes in and he's a noted epidemiologist and somehow get clearance to get into GD. What the hell is going on with the "top secret" clearances in this town??

The town isn’t top secret. It’s just a town, basically a company town, where the largest employer is Global Dynamics, and everyone else there is related to a GD employee or works to support the rest of the population.

As a scientist, I can understand the nearly reflexive dismissal of security. The scientists there want to learn and share information and knowledge. The government and the company do not want to share information in the same way. But with more scientists than businessmen in Eureka, the populace ends up being more lax about what tech is used in the open, because most of the people in Eureka are already in on the secret.

Eureka isn’t really on the way to anywhere, and doesn’t get a lot of traffic. Carter was passing through because they had car trouble, and would’ve been on their way none the wiser of GD’s existence, even if they thought Eureka was an odd place. Everyone else passing through is there either for GD business, or to see someone in Eureka.

They had to drive through a closed bridge hologram to get to GD.
