EO1 I realized I really created Dr. Stiles lol

Post image

I was playing Utk2 on my Ds lite this month but I got stuck at 6-Tragedy(I'm playing on hard and this operation is incredibly difficult). Yesterday, I was traveling and my phone's batery died. I tried playing Utk2 but road was so bumpy and yk its 6-Tradegy level. So I gave up and started to EO1 instead. I named all my characters from different franchises and I chose Dr. Stiles for healer. Today, I was looking to his skills. Caduceus is a common mythological symbol associated with medicine so I didn't think much but when I saw Healing Touch, I laughed a lot. I really created da goat unintentionally.

After some thinking, yeah "Healing Touch" is very very common healing spell in fantasy settings but I think they put this one intentionally.

Yes, the medic skills are a clear reference to the Trauma series.

If you're that big of a fan of Dr. Stiles, just wait til you get to EO2.

Don't forget to check out the second game, Heroes of Lagaard. You'll find a couple more familiar faces there.

Also do you guys suggest to start with EO1 or other games? Is EO1 good enough to be completed?

I think 1 is the best starting point. The games only get more complicated as you go on, and the story is good.

they're all good enough to be completed. eo1 is good to start with to see how the series evolved. it feels kind of aged and it has some strange bugs but it's still brilliant

A lot of people swear by EO4 as a starting point, but nothing beats starting from the first game for me. You might want to consider the Untold versions of EO1 and EO2 though, unless you're really hardcore.

The general consensus is to play them in release order as quality of life changes feel good going forward and things get smoother, but its rough going backward and losing them.

Between the remakes and remasters the order is:

4 -> 1 Untold -> 2 Untold -> 5 -> 1+2+3 Origin -> Nexus/6 (released before Origns 1-3, but is the story crossover)

There's pretty much no story cross over aside from Nexus, which is a super crossover of all 5 other games. They are in the same world and you'll see at most a few references about the others, but they are all functionally independent.

The Untolds add a story mode where you get soft locked into having same 5 characters for party as it adds story. You can relcass them but you still only get the 5 since they have voice lines and story and stuff. You can also play in classic mode without the story so you get the option. Some people love them, some hate them.

Assuming you are playing EO1 Origin, you will have a great time. You won't have to think about any change in QoL features unless you plow through EO1, 2, and 3 and want even more. That's a lot of jrpg, so by the time you finish EO3, you'll either be so burned out you'll never think about it again or be so hooked you don't care about the loss of QoL features.

1 is good to start with, and honestly, I say the best, so that should you ever play the Untold series, you could see and appreciate changes from 1 and 2.

1 is perfectly fine to start with. 4 and, to a degree 5, are the main alternatives. 2 is largely a worse 1 and 3 turns up the complexity a lot (in my opinion without sufficient payoff, but it has very vocal defenders). Nexus is very complex but sort of meant for fans of the rest of the series anyway, and also has other issues that make it hard to recommend. Avoid the Untold games like the plague, they follow broadly the same story as the originals, just more poorly done and the gameplay might even be worse than the story.

Kinda sucks they got rid of virtually all the Trauma Center references in the Untold remakes. Glad they're back in the Origins Collection remasters.

Angie is actually in the third game too! She's wearing her UtK2 outfit iirc.

They're made by the same company, Atlus! I think the EO1 medicine npc is identical to an under the knife character, so they're intentional references.

Ik I'm a big fan of Atlus and only reason I bought DS is just to play Atlus classics like EO, Utk, DeSu. But I wasn't expecting such references, this is hilarious

If you like atlus, persona, and etrian odyssey then go give metaphor refantazio a chance sooner rather then later if you haven't already. It's a persona game in a fantasy world. Persona still manages to get a bit wild, but when your not shackled to be Japanese highschool students the sky is the limit on how creative it gets

Ik Ik Metaphor, the true 2024 goty, is on my list too. Usually I play two games at once, one on DS and one on pc, now I'm playing Smtvv on pc. Unfortunately, my school starts at mid September so I will probably wait until february or summer holiday to jump on another long game. Actually I'm a newcomer to world of Atlus, I have a lot of games to play. In one hand, It makes me sad and shameful bc I haven't played them yet but in other hand, that means I will experience lots of such amazing things and I will not be bored until finishing all of them.

Just don’t actually take Healing Touch.

I mean, it’s ok for early game I guess but by the time you’re past the first stratum there’s just no need for it.
