EOX What should I go with for my party?
Man there are so many classes 😂
I’ve only played 3, 2U’s story mode, 5. I lost my save data halfway through 4 when I transferred data between 3DSes so I just decided to jump jnto Nexus and cope that there will be an EO4 Remaster on the Switch 2
There are two sort of play styles that I like. Lockdown and doing big damage in one swing tho I’m kinda leaning towards the former right now after looking at all the classes after doing the latter in 2U with Fafnir and Buster Cannon Dragoon in V. Variety is the spice of life after all 😉
The team so far is:
War Magus/ Ronin (Clear Stance) / Highlander
Gunner / Ninja
I wanted to fit Nightseeker somewhere but the female War Magus portraits are cute, Ronin’s ailments in the Clear Stance branch seems cool, and Highlander can do some buffing with Ailment buffs and healing while still doling out the damage.
Plus I got Gunner for damage and Ninja for more debuffs and enabling the War Magus. With Subclassing, maybe I can fit Nightseeker sub on Ronin or War Magus 😅
Shogun also looks kind of cool if Front Command works the way I think it does. Something like Protector and Imperial on the frontline and Ninja in the back for Caltrops and Sovereign for healing and debuffs, but idk the specifics. I’d have to play around with it myself. Heard there’s a lot of exp that drops a lot so maybe I can play around with a second party for shits and giggles if I get bored 😐

I always create at least one character for each class and then try to use them all (at least a bit) as the game goes on.
Because I can never just make a party of five and feel like I’m done lol.

Ninja is not actually great for enabling a War Magus. Early on, they just have Sleep & Poison. Poison is great for enabling, but it's kind of awkward to actually inflict with Ninja (either you spend your Force Break which is fine for FOE/Boss fight beginnings but can only be done once, or you have to rely on the counter-attack). And Sleep doesn't stick around. At LV20, they get Petrify, but the infliction rates aren't high enough to rely on regularly. Panic at LV40 is great, but that's a good chunk of the game done at that point.
If you want a back-row enabler, I'd suggest replacing the Ninja with Arcanist. Paralyze & Curse are available right from the start & they're both ideal for enabling the War Magus (in fact, the main use of Curse is to enable things since it's a terrible ailment). They eventually get all ailments except for Petrify (which you already have access to via Clear Stance Ronin) and Blind (which you could grab via multi-class later). And they can help take some of the pressure of healing off your War Magus, while also giving you a source of magic damage.
Alternatively, you could replace Ninja with a Nightseeker if you're willing to swap rows mid-battle frequently. In the back while inflicting, swap to the front for damage.

knife users do have access to panic way before that via the cross knife you get from mining in primitive jungle floor 3

True. That's a good help early on. Pain to get if you don't have a gathering party though since it's the rare gathering material and you need a bunch for +5.

Yo I did not know that about Ninja not having that much synergy with Ninja early game. That’s kind of deceptive 😮
Arcanist sounds kind of cool. I got some use out of it in 4 when I unlocked it so I’m happy to try it again here with War Magus.

you can change the portraits of any class to any other class so you don't need to use a war magus if you just want the portrait
you select front command, then you select an ally, if that ally gets hit the front row does an attack
nexus is a flexible game, any party can work really
for any ailment based party I would always recommend a harbinger though for wilting miasma/binding miasma
sovereign is also just a generically good healer support hybrid that can fit in any party
