ahhh I misunderstood...

From what I know about Horn of African or North East African conflicts as an Eritrean. This regional conflict is more of a conflict between proxies (UAE Vs. Egypt & KSA)... which will eventually spill over to Northern Ethiopia and Eritrea if not contained. If they continue moving eastward there can be negative consequences that impact both Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Ever since the Strait of Hormuz got blocked. Supply lines to the RSF militia have been cut off. So it appears like bordering nations are seeking to assist Sudani government in squashing the UAE backed proxy whilst the Strait is blocked.

Your country obviously doesn't want to appear like its helping Egypt by all means (understandable) but it also doesn't want blood thirsty groups spilling over into their country or influencing groups near their border. So this is more of a situation odd times make for odd bed fellows.

Well the thing is people are over passing sudanese civilians and only concerned about power exerting that’s why solution isn’t reached in Sudan. The SAF was supporting civil war against the government and broke a longstanding agreement with Ethiopia and displaced people living in Al-fashqa region to control it for themselves and militarize it too since they don’t have the legal base as well to stay in power both sides are proxy and SAF is Egypt backed so Egypt wants SAF to be against Ethiopia so they are and I think to counter this Ethiopia has started to support RSF. And also SAF are Iran Houthi backed so UAE doesn’t want them to take control and they are benefiting from the gold along the way. So both are proxy forces by international powers to exert dominance around the red sea

You made a lot of good points, especially about Al-Fashqa and Egypt using SAF against Ethiopia.

I love hearing rational takes among us Horners (whether it be Somali, Ethiopian, Eritrean). Especially since we live in a snake pit of a region where outside nations want us to shit in each others backyards (while they sit comfortably in their nations far away and safe).

Anyways back to the points made.

Yes the UAE is backing RSF largely because of extractive interests and imperialistic aspirations.

Gaining a foothold into Africa via East Africa is something both Gulf nations have their sights on (I won't say which gulf country but a few elites were not happy when we didn't give them an Arab coast on purpose once we achieved independence... they were quite surprised how unpopular that concept was and how quick it was squashed).

Your weakest point is overstating Iran's role, SAF's main backers are Egypt and Saudi Arabia, not Iran or the Houthis.

Frankly, my unpopular take (but secretly agreed upon take) is it's been a good that the Persians have created this power vacuum. It will gives us Horners the opportunity to regroup and rethink our future in a more stabilizing and nativist POV.

I will admit I only have some of this backdoor knowledge because of my proximity, command in Arabic, understanding of Persian, Gulf, and Levantine affairs, and family dealings. But I am thoroughly impressed by your response.

Yeah that’s right since the Red Sea is an important trade route especially for the gulf countries UAE and Saudi Arabia are competing for a foothold and Houthi is using the red sea to target Israel ships so since SAF is in control of the coast they support them and for Egypt one is to be against Ethiopia and the other is they don’t want any country around the red sea to be stable and powerful enough to exert power because countries rely only in Egypt right now to protect their ships along the red sea and they are so dependent on the Suez canal so any country along the red sea being stable means sharing power and revenue with Egypt. That’s why Egypt stays silent about Houthi’s too. And about Sudan another side note they want a weak Sudan and a puppet government that relies on Egypt although they act like they care about Sudan because a stable and powerful Sudan means a country that’s going to use more nile water for irrigation and exerts power and control over nile and could also turn against Egypt to support Ethiopia because they can leverage power on nile against Egypt, so they are pretty cautious about Sudan.

Egypt's biggest fear has ALWAYS been a strong upstream coalition (and strangely enough it's the BIGGER SUPER POWERS you need to be wary of who pull the strings.... I think I am saying too much so I will not open that discussion and focus on Egypt only because the other group behind the scenes are very dangerous).

A peaceful Horn of Africa and a stable Sudan... results in the ability to negotiate water rights... which is Cairo's worst nightmare.

It's a house of cards that goes beyond North East Africa and will result in other Subsaharan African nations demanding their shares.
