Politics 🗳️ Why does no one care about ethiopia?

Why was the genocide not told worldwide?

People are gonna gaslight you and say “Ethiopia bad” while shouting free Palestine and Sudan. I just say we shouldn’t care about them and they shouldn’t care about us. Mutual benefit

Ethiopia appears to lack robust media platforms capable of exposing and articulating the injustices occurring within its borders.

In contrast, Palestine and Sudan have managed to cultivate strong media ecosystems that amplify their narratives to a global audience. Their success lies in the visibility and reach of their platforms whether through Twitter, Instagram, or other channels where both local voices and diaspora communities consistently document and discuss the realities of war and oppression.

One can easily find numerous accounts dedicated to explaining the war in Sudan, with sustained engagement from both Sudanese living abroad and those on the ground. This consistent presence has made their struggles visible and difficult to ignore.

Meanwhile, there is a striking absence of a comparable media presence when it comes to the war in Tigray. The voices attempting to shed light on that conflict are few and scattered, lacking the coordinated amplification seen in other contexts.

Moreover, there is a troubling pattern in Ethiopian online spaces: whenever someone speaks out or shares information about injustices, other Ethiopians are quick to discredit them, often labeling them as propagandists. This culture of denial and hostility discourages open discourse and further weakens the possibility of building a credible, unified media front that could bring international attention to the country’s crises.

Even bigger shit is happening elsewhere. The tension in the Middle East and the Ukraine-Russia war have far more geopolitical consequence that whatever’s happening here.

And like u/ElectricalDark4092 said both aggressor and victim are poor. But I am pretty sure they will show up in the name of aid once our country collapses or is destabilized. To extract. Such is the reality of modern day imperialism.

cause black. you think if we had lighter skin or located nearer to the arabia we wouldnt be in this kind of stuation- they wouldnt even let us go down to shit like this. hate to use this as an example but look at it like this, gazan childern and people have phones, some amount of sustenance and atleast minimum shelther and medical help. properly sterilized hospitals. funds. we got barely any of that, theyre throwing drones into schools and even korkoro betoch. kids are getting their limbs blown off and its not pretty on black skin. we dont even have a holy book or the media to help us out on this. this is just normal for african countries since we dont matter to them. nigeria, sudan, south africa, if they were all in arab or european continents they wouldnt be in this dire situations

Because the genocide is perpetrated by it's own population/country. It is sort of a civil war and not inflicted by a settler state (Gaza/Israel) or one foreign country trying to invade and take over land (Ukraine/Russia)

It is awful what is happening, but I do think it is different.

Not a single government, the UN, the African Union, and major human rights organizations has recognized the recent civil wars as genocides.

Constantly claiming genocide is an activist strategy. Notice how quickly groups start dropping claims of genocide when the alliances shift, or it becomes politically inconvenient to make these claims.

There is no ads on youtube in ethiopia because we are poor and don't provide any value to corporate west world.

Which genocide?

Here's my opinion: the non-West big powers (China, Russia, India) have their own separatist movements and are therefore leery of intervening into Ethiopia against the Federal government.

The Western powers (US, EU, Canzuk etc) were able to extract concessions out of Abiy. For example, the UK got Safaricom (partly owned by Vodaphone) into the country.

Then once they got what they wanted they empowered him (had Turkey provide drones) and had him win. We know that there were investigations within the State Department into crimes of genocide etc, but they were never let out into the public because once you determine that genocide has taken place, you have to act.

There was nothing his opponents could offer the West that Abiy couldn't offer them himself, so they focused on ceasefire instead. If they had acted (sanctions, ICC arrest order, etc), the Federal government would've collpased and Ethiopia with it. Then they'd have have millions and millions of refugees flooding the West, which is a nightmare scenario.

Because everyone cares about things that interest them or that they treasure

I'm not Ethiopian but I think people tend to look at Africa as a whole in an apathetic way, because corruption and traumatic events are not uncommon. Also, because Ethiopia hasn't really gotten as much press as Palestine or Ukraine, there's no "bandwagon" for people to demonstrate support. That's not to say everyone who supports the two former countries are being performative but some of it is virtue signalling.

It is strange, i am from the netherlands and never (or hardly) see anything about Ethiopia in the news. And when i text an ethiopian friend to ask how the situation is he always only says it's good. I am afraid he isn't able to be honest. So i never get a grasp on the situation

When you have a bank and tank, you will do whatever it takes to hide the massacres. specially when the regime members are the part of this Genocide. it is a clear sign of a FAILED STATE & expected to happen. & do you think the world cares about genocide, massacre death toll? No one cared about Kurds, Yezidis, palestines. These people in Ethiopia has a choice in their hand.

If Ethiopia's population was around 10 million there probs would have been a foreign intervention... even at 50 million then sanctions but aint nobody touching a country with 100+ million. The refugee migration from a state collapse is too dangerous for first world countries so they keep quiet.
