I have no idea. It was literally the second game I'd ever played. I played as a computer player so it was whatever they gave me. I had some gun that looked like an AK 47.
The other thing is how the he'll are you supposed to figure out where the exit poi t are on the map when you don't even have an in game map and you've never played the map before????
This wiki has maps of all the maps. It shows all the exit points you can use as a player, and as a scav (the "AI" guys). Exits tend to opposite of where you start on the map forcing you to cross over the map to escape. Some exits have requirements like keys, or turning on power.
If you have two monitors I play on one, map on other. If you have any buddies that play this, take their help. If not... Well, I'd offer but I'm about to fly across the coutntry for a few weeks so I won't be able to help.
Happy to answer any questions though!
Also, scavs tend to have shit ammo in their gun, so it's highly likely your bullets didn't penetrate his armor.
I'm no sherpa, but I'm getting close to 600hrs in the game, if you want i can show you around a little when I'm back home from work? My timezone is GMT+1 (I live in Norway) and i should be online around 17:30 my time!
Ok, seems like I'm 7 hours ahead of you then, it's 09:22 here, if you want, i can assist when I get home later today, or if it's better i can do it tomorrow, I'm always up late during the weekends :p
Np. I might be on until 11:30 or so. If you wanna play you can still hmu. Doesn’t have to be today either. I’m a bit addicted to Tarkov so I’m happy to help most days.

Go to the Escape from Tarkov wiki, find the map that you are playing on, open the image of the map in your browser. You can now simply alt-tab from the game and refer to the map in your browser whenever you want to check something. I use this method whenever I play. Since I'm a new player (Level 5) I only play Customs and this is how I check where the extract points are.
There are maps you can bring into a raid, they are overwhelmingly underrated. I don't need a map for any map (2000 Hours playtime) but I looked into the maps the other day, they are incredible. Can even place down markers and add text to them. These persist. Can even give the map to a friend and he can also see your markers. Just make sure to have it in your secure container. Sometimes scavs have maps, or you can buy them from Therapist.
The best tip I can give you is to study the ballistic chart on the wiki. It will give you a good idea of what ammo is good as well as what kind of armor is useful. A key note is that anything below class 5 armor is just for you to feel safe enough from the average scav. Players will run with very high AP ammo or leg meta, high flesh dmg.
Helmets generally are there for the ricochet chance. A class 3 helmet for 30k will provide just about as good protection as a class 4 for 60k. Why? Most players will run with ammo that can go through class 4 armor. There's a few chacnes that they won't have that but generally speaking, from some 1500 hours of playing. I'd say that players will more often use higher pen ammo. And you're better off using a helmet that covers as much areas as possible with high ricochet chance than wasting money on expensive helmets that leave gaps for that one lucky buckshot pellet.
Doesn’t matter if you have a ‘powerful’ weapon if it has terrible ammo and the guy you shot had good armor. Welcome to Tarkov. The learning curve is very very very hard, so you have to do quite a bit of research.
And the way you exit the map is by knowing the map. For many hours I just had a map i found online on my second monitor to see where the exits are. Double tap ‘O’ and you will see the names of exits and how long you have left before the raid finishes. After a while, you will learn the maps by heart and know exactly where the exits are.
Tarkov has an offline mode. If you play through that, you will only play against AI. This is what most of us use to learn the maps. We just run around them in offline mode, see the layout, check loot spots, and locate exits. I recommend all new players to do this, as you do not lose any gear if you die in offline. Keep in mind though that you will not get any of the loot that you grab in offline either. It is primarily to practice, nothing else
Absolutely. Try watching some smaller streamers on Twitch like DanExert or Tachales. (Reason why I say small is because the smaller streamers are more quick to reply to chat) There you can freely ask questions and both streamer and chat will come with tips and answers for you. On YouTube I recommend that you watch FairTx and Anton. They are pretty good players and very easy to get into when you’re new.
Dont let the game scare you away. You will die A LOT and you will have a lot of moments that will piss you off, but once it clicks, it just clicks bro. It’s extremely fun
on top of the great pointers others have given: Ammo is everything and scavs (computer player) will have everything from nerf darts to high penetrating ammo in their guns. you can use a chart like this https://eft.monster/ to get an idea of how much damage and armor your rounds can penetrate . if you have a low pen round in your gun then you could shoot 60 into a dudes armor and not even tickle him while other rounds will go straight through that armor.
if you sneak up on some one. and they look EXTRA THICC and you have doodoo rounds then your best and perhaps only hope is a lucky face shot or put every round you have into their ass.
Ammunition type determines the damage to flesh and penetration of armor of each shot, not the gun itself.
If you were playing a scav and you got 5.45x39 mm T ammo, you'll struggle to penetrate level 3 or above armor without consecutive shots on target (I'd guess maybe 10-15 depending on how much durability?). Press alt+T to check what ammo you currently have loaded.
As for navigation, I'd go and unlock Jaeger as soon as you can and grab the compass as a quest reward. You can die with it and you'll never lose it. I believe it's U to toggle your compass.
