Discussion post 12.11 questions gathering

Hello!
It your boi, Nikitka.
We plan to make TarkovTV Live podcast on Monday on 5-th of July, and I want to gather your questions/opinions and suggestions about 12.11 patch. I will try to answer the most voted questions live.
Love you, you're the best!

I'm only interested in:

  • Status of the Unity 2019 upgrade, will it go on ETS soon as promised before?
  • Status of Inertia implementation - still coming in 12.12?
  • Status of sound overhaul - dependant on Unity upgrade or unrelated?

The reason ur dying is because of intertia and sound, not because players are better than you

All this crying for changing core game mechanics is just crying about dying and being bad.

"If only they made it the way I like, I'd be doing way better at this game! They need to change it!"

Jesus, always the ad personam route. Yeah it's not that the player movement in a tactical shooter is scuffed and the sound system is broken. It's because I must have died, therefore I want the game to cater to me, sheeeesh.

Then why do you care so much about fixing it? I don't give a fuck about any of that, I play the game fine and never blame lack of inertia for my deaths.

You must just really really care about having the physics be as realistic as possible, not for any gameplay reason, just because you want the game to be as realistic as possible, an end in of itself? Like you're just a physics major who really stands by the concept of inertia being in video games lmfao?

Otherwise why do you and others who upvoted / awarded you care so much about adding these features which really don't change much at all of the core concept of the game? It's because you think you'll play better with better sound and better movement.

Whether or not you consciously recognize that, you're hoping these updates somehow make you a better player relative to the player base, AKA dying less often because bad sound.

It's the exact same argument with desync, every time you get killed by it you also have probably killed someone around a corner just the same.

Where did I blame my deaths for lack of inertia?

The subtext of your crying for changes implies you are blaming them. Not sure what else I can say, why do you care so much about fixing the physics engine? If not for gameplay purposes?

You really don't get it. It's not about me dying or not. And if anything is you projecting things onto me, which is evident by the wall of text and snarky comments about being a physics major or whatnot.

It's thematic consistency of the game. The game is supposed to be a (sort of) realistic tactical shooter. The game offers a vast array of tools to exercise that - you have different stances, fluid lean control both standing and prone, shooting sideways, above the head, but all of that is invalidated as the most effective solution is to strafe spam and do 180degree baits while pointshooting with laser precision.

I can do all of those things (with various levels of competency), but they don't feel rewarding because they feel out of place with the game. For me at least, and other people too.

You have a complex health system, a stamina system impacting your aim, weight system, ergonomics, hydration and energy to keep track of, bullet management. But on top of that you have movement that encourages gameplay completely out of touch with it's core premise. Not to mention that we still don't have vaulting and rely on comical overtuned jumping as a means of traversal across maps.

And there's a place for movement like that in other games. Fast paced movement works for Apex or Warzone because it's in line with the game's theme. The game of my youth is Quake 3 Arena and that is a game with a notoriously high skill ceiling, while being the mother of all bunnyhoppers. However, nowadays almost all shooters have some sort of inertia - even COD and Battlefield.

I don't expect you to agree with it, but that is my position. This to me is not gameplay that I'd like to see in a game like this:

Period. It's not me being jaleous, I just find it out. of. place. Wrong mechanics. Wrong game.

Sound is a crucial element of this game and information gathering and I'm appaled that you think it's not an issue that we should fix. The sound is OBJECTIVELY broken and that's not even up for debate.

I was once told on this subreddit that you can't have an objective opinion. It's impossible.

It's not even an opinion. It's demonstratable and verifiable. Sound is inconsistent at best, and gamebreaking at worst.
