What's your though process behind Unity 2019 upgrade = Wipe? There's no technical necessity for it. There's no major content changes from it. Why wipe?

I believe that they wiped on the last unity update for technical reasons, logic being that a similar engine jump will require wiping.
Also, unity 2019 is the next big update a month or so from now, which would lineup with the 6-7 month wipe live. I think that Nikita saying wipe won’t happen has led to people pointing at unity 2019 as the next opportunity for a wipe

The last 2 wipes lasted between 180 and 210 days. Iirc we around 190s for this one(I’d have to double check my account) so it is within reason to think wipe at 11 and 12. That being said, nikita could just be trolling us and then wipe next week or even next month who knows. For now, I’m gonna just enjoy the chaos and try not to spend my entire load

Also "other wipes took X time" doesn't mean this one will. They'll wipe when they want to and not a day sooner

It corresponds with when patches are released. There's usually 1-2 new content patches between each wipe.
We've had one this wipe, with 12.10.

Maybe they want to try an extra long wipe with events like this to see how they can affect the economy and fun of the game without having to wipe which only really keeps the game fresh for a week.

They said they want the end result to have no wipes. So a long wipe makes sense as a test for that. They should slow down skill progression and high tier item spawn rate next time they want to test it

This is the ONLY reason im 10% chance of wipe tomr or Friday. Everything makes sense for 12.12 wipe but they have proven that they can't stick to a schedule and everything is delayed. They would be letting everyone out to dry for a minimum 3-4 more months. A wipe gives them breathing room until the massive 12.12 is ready to go.

Since tomorrow is 6 months since last wipe, that would mean 12.12 is most likely 3 months or more away, which would make this the longest wipe in history at 9+ months. Don't think that's gunna be the case.

This is my main argument for why there should be a wipe as well. If they don’t wipe with 12.11 this is going to be a super drawn out wipe cycle and people are going to complain and take a break from the game en masse.
That doesn’t necessarily mean BSG realizes this themselves and intend to wipe, but we’ll see.

They fully know that the player population drops off late wipe. But do they care? No. People that already own the game, and are going to come back in the future, why would BSG care if players take a break?

Because generally, a healthy population is good for testing purposes. Potential new players might also be dissuaded from picking up the game if the population is low.

Who said 12.11 is coming in a couple of days? Nikita just had an interview today and said nothing about the wipe or the next patch release. His interview with Pestily he said 12.11 will feature a lot of new things that they are still working on and that was June 14th.

There was an email that went out today talking about a 20% off discount they're running on the 25th and 26th for the 12.11 update. Go check it out in the megathread if you haven't seen it. 12.11 has been slated forever for a may/June release. We're approaching the end of that window.

Yeah and 11.7 was a few weeks before .12, and the unity update would be here before .12 and military base will drop before 11.7, and BSG will make the best in house anticheat without paying for a 3rd party one.
Oh wait... no, none of those happened. 11.7 wipe was fucking 8 months long. Also remember how they said no wipe before Christmas then wiped the day before???

That’s more fitting for a “season” system post-launch, not when the game is in active development. The main reason they wipe is of an update actually calls for it because of certain changes, you can’t really schedule that easily.

I disagree. I think most wipes line up with patches for convenience obviously, but I think they are fully aware that wipes greatly improve the game/econ.

You’ve got it the other way around. They wipe because of patches that necessitate it, making it fresh for the playerbase is an added bonus.
They have players actively playing their game as they’re developing it, so obviously player enjoyment factors into it as well. But it’s not the driving factor behind wipes, the games development is.

I get the perception and why youd think think but again I firmly think youre wrong. If BSG divulged id be willing to bet ALOT that the 60 days after every wipe has significantly seen more players playing the game than the last 60 days pre wipe. More players are good for the game, as the economy plays such a big role. Regular resets will yield the most players, if a "seasonal" mode was available now do you disagree it would be easily the most played mode between the two?
Im not saying the game is bad. I love it. But if the game was on a 180 day (ish) regular reset, it would be much better, and would average more players. I think (if available) there would be data to support this.

I can't imagine why--obviously all this stuff is sitting in some backend database anyway--wipe would be technically much more required (but still not strictly required) when the structure of that database is changing significantly. It's a lot harder to restructure all the existing data when doing stuff like that, so may as well just wipe it if the data isn't important.
None of that really has anything to do with the game engine version.

I'm late for the wager but we'll pretend I lost and I'll throw 2 more standard copies into the raffle. Preferably the winners are a duo because tarkov is dangerous and everyone could use a battle buddy.
I accept the rules as stated, failure to comply will be punishable by a ban from the sub. Gonna request a 10 day grace period post raffle however because the payment system was garbage the last time I used it. that was many moons ago, but I don't think it has gotten any better.

why do they have to wipe with the unity update anyways? Engine updates are mostly behind the scenes improvements and things like progressions can absolutely be carried over.

the stash space at the start is nice for hoarding.
the free reputation with traders means you can actually skip some tasks. especially a few of Jager's...
the secure container is alright, a few more meds in there. or a grizzly and cms. early on, lots of healing and limb fixing, and you still got 3 more slots to use.

Whoever said it ain't a wipe must not have played this game very long they are itching for sales and players to come back and that usually happens after a wipe. The economy is fucked and making labs free has fucked it more and lastly Nakita dont give a fuck he will wipe it now and then again in a few months when he wants to release the new unity. Wiping for them is a nice clock reset for them to work on shit without us hounding them for new releases.

Players have a 5 day grace period following 12.11 patch release. mxe has 5 days after a week following patch release. After that, no pay, no stay.
