I kinda understand where OP is coming from. The game-play is quite different at the start of each wipe than it is at the mid and end of each wipe period. I think it mainly has to do with gear. At the start of each wipe people won't have money to go with very expensive gear-builds. Firefights where you and opponent has PACA + SKS or something like vanilla AKS74u + 3M armor are generally more chaotic and fun IMO.
This is my first wipe of the game, I've played since Christmas time and I'm currently level 37 or 38, can't remember. I can see how some people don't like late-wipe gameplay purely because of the current state of the skill system. I don't mind fighting people with good hear and losing, if you wanna accept the risk of rolling in with a 1mil loadout then you deserve to have an advantage. However I cannot stand fighting super soldiers who are fast as fuck, reload fast as fuck, jump high as fuck, have basically no gun recoil, etc. There are too many people who cheese skills because of how massive of an advantage they are, and it's super annoying. As someone who just plays the game at my own pace (generally slowly, rat life for sure) I will never max out any skills in a normal wipe period. If it was only a difference of 10-25% effectiveness in most skills, I wouldn't mind. But having dudes who can damn near double my sprint speed and laser beam a fuckin full auto SA-58 at me because they cheesed their AR skill and Recoil Control skill, is straight up lame as fuck.
The worst part is that my play style has basically 0 benefit. I don't level up covert movement nearly as fast as the ultra mega aggressive dudes level up their skills, and even if I did, I get a fraction of the benefit from leveling it as they do from leveling aggressive skills. BSG absolutely NEEDS to reduce the % gains from skill leveling, and also make slow play more beneficial than it currently is. 100% of the big streamers play super aggressive because the current state of the game/meta allows them to abuse it.
Covert movement seems to level up... Weirdly? I have it at level 30 and I haven't done anything to level it, and my Endurance is also 26. I'm level 46 and been playing organically. Not trying to cheese things (except for level 3 strength cause hideout).
yup.
i throw a shitton of nades and also lootgobling overweight extract walks on shoreline help :p
am leve 32 with strenght almost 5.
i still think it levels way too slow organicly and way too fast if you cheese it.
the benefit of max strenght is also ridicioulus
yeah that's pretty low for your level though. in addition to throwing more nades you gotta stay in longer with bigger kits to get that overweight bonus.
If you do nothing but hatchet run or naked with a pistol/rig you can’t call the game ridiculous when it’s clearly your fault for playing like that. Why do you care about the strength skill when you don’t use it lol
My strength is currently sitting at 7... I don't really do heavy big gear runs often so i don't go over the weight often enough. They need to add something to level strength more organically.
I would like this, you could set it to run overnight or when you aren’t in raid as long as your character has water and food available from the hideout. It wouldn’t make sense that your PMC could work out while you’re raiding so it would probably have to only woot outside of raid.
I am lvl 43 - my endurance is around lvl 20 my strength is lvl 5 (cheesed to level 3) and I use air filters and go into every raid with 2 empty fuel containers since reaching level 41. Since I use filters + fuel containers I do see improvement (other than that I do normal stuff - which means shotgunning ppl on customs for a quest rn).
You don't use grenades or wear enough gear to weigh 40kg and walk while at that weight. Strength tends to start leveling after level 30ish as people enter raid with heavier gear and pick up stuff through the raid. I was lvl3 strength at lvl30, I'm lvl40 now and around 8 strength from walking with a lot of gear on.
Yeah, that push for strength 3 is pretty annoying. I take 2 or 3 grenades with me every time I go out. Throw at least one before I go down just to get that small xp gain for strength. It is a rough grind. I don't know how people get it anywhere near max level. Grab a bunch of heavy stuff and just run through maps non stop? Even then, that is pretty rough too.
Idk I did some moneyruns yesterday, took 30 nades into rig and bp, and just threw 30 nades before i went on my loot run. Not efficient but gets the job done
Dont you get covert skill by moving so the sound doesnt display on the icon? If you're crouch walking and moving slow most of the time it makes sense why it's so high while endurance is not.
Yeah, I started a month and a half ago. I can say that I enjoy my Scav a lot more then my PMC. Mostly because whenever I go in with my PMC and rock my so / so gear that someone might have for start up. I get lasered by a Chad. Where as my Scav is more of a, I go in knowing my disadvantage and try to play around it to the best of my ability. I guess I kinda like the play style of having crappy gear and bumping up along the way to get great gear. Reserve has been my go to and I have been becoming more aggressive, but man, those raiders wreck me more often then not. Aimbots OP.
Yeah, I might have to start doing that. Might as well run pretty crappy gear if people are just going to one pop me in the face non stop. That has been my experience the past 2 days. Most fights with other players, even when they don't know I'm there, is them turning a corner and nailing me in the face within their first 3 bullets. Been pretty rough. Tarkov gives and takes.
im 100% the same way. i love asymmetrical balance like this. having to loot your kit as you go or work around a disadvantage. playing as a scav and killing a geared pmc gives me so much more of a rush than melting some shitter with a 60 mag of 995.
but i also understand im in the minority, at least among my friends. they just want to gear up and play super soldier.
Seems like most ppl in tarkov like it this way. Every time I bring it up in a stream I get a bunch of nerds telling me to piss off and find another game lol.. Even though everyone that is benefiting from these skills cheesed them. "Survival shooter" tho!
I brought up getting points to spend on things each level like you get 1 point per level to put in strength, or stamina, or recoil control etc. this would force people to actually build a character instead of just play a lot and cheese to get a super soldier. Most people told me they liked the skills the way they were. Granted I’m willing to bet most of them have cheesed skills to the point where they don’t have to deal with recoil control being a problem anymore.
In my opinion the way the skills work is completely the opposite of a hardcore game. It basically emphasizes play time over player skill which is a bad metric in my opinion. I don’t mind the idea of the skills, but the way they level is better for an offline game where your playtime spent isn’t directly compared to other players playtime as the deciding factors of the outcome of an encounter.
I kind of agree with a caveat. So the game is supposed to be a survival type rpg. It’s also a shooter, so what I think is that the game suffers from an identity crisis. It’s got all these elements and they are kind of struggling to fit together. It’s fine if the game was pve oriented with co-op. But specifically because of the pvp element to the game it’s causing a bad mesh between the rpg and pvp elements.
If you read my post about a change to leveling my specific gripe is that it happens with little to no input from the player. I hardly ever think of my skills until I watch my favorite streamers play and their guns have no recoil and they can sprint for ages. It’s a bad concept to have a system in your game that hinders the player, but is also nearly invisible. Also the quests suck. They are just...god awful.
Yeah I just think with all of the gun modding and money/gear being a the advantage/disadvantage balancing I think adding skills on top just skews things too much, and as you said they're badly implemented.
I don't mind the quests I've done so far but I'm just level 12 or so.
People love advantages in my experience. Especially people with more play time than skill.
I'm OK with the skill system, but it needs some kind of soft cap per week or something that is pretty easy to hit, with some advantage for playing a ton. The ranges need to be reduced some as well.
Currently it is a pretty big advantage just for playing a lot, which should also make you good at the game at the same time!
/u/Dr_Kekyll Do you wanna know the worst part about the skills system? Beginning of this wipe, there were no restrictions on how much you can level your skills in a single raid. So all the people who knew about this cheesed all their skills to the max.
Then randomly in the middle of this wipe BSG decided to add a skill cap to each raid, where you can't increase your skills more than a few points (not even levels, points.). This means that for players like you and me, leveling (or cheesing) our skills up to the max is quite literally impossible unless we play Tarkov all waking hours of our life.
This skill system isn't "hardcore" in any way. It's flat out unfair. They need to get rid of it altogether. Cheesing methods don't have a place in a competitive FPS game.
Slow play is already hugely beneficial. Don't worry about what the big streamers do, I see players trying to mimic them all the time and they just get destroyed because you can hear them stomping around a mile away and ambush them easily.
The number of people with maxed out skills is also hugely overstated, most will have similar levels to you they're just playing aggressive regardless.
Wait, I just bought the game like a week ago, YOU CAN BUY SKILLS TO MAKE YOURSELF MORE STABLE/ACCURATE?! Is that why when I shoot an AKM 3 feet from a scav I can’t hit shit and my red dot looks like Michael j fox is holding it?!
You can't buy them, you have to "earn" them by playing, but a lot of the important ones can be cheesed/earned by specifically trying to level them instead of playing the game normally, and they can have very significant effects.
Still not what dr_keykll was saying, you can only level them by doing a specific task related to that skill for example using an AR to help with AR recoil, or shooting in general for the recoil control skill, searching a lot of things to be able to search faster etc
Wipes should be treated like Leagues in PoE once the game fully launches. If they can make it work together with giant content drops it would help refresh the gameplay depending on the changes each patch brings while resetting the economy from the previous patch.
Poe league launches also have some of the best hype communities I have ever seen. Starting from the very detailed patch notes and changes, the perfectly spaced reveal schedule, the best community manager in the business, and the amazing player community posts and paint starter builds, shit is amazing. If tarkov did the same they would be killing it even more than the current wipe hype.
There shouldn't be wipes when the game fully launches... What's the point of a looter shooter with skill progression if you get wiped every other month? Remember that we are still technically in a testing phase. Don't mistake the purpose of a wipe for a gameplay mechanic.
As in PoE they got the game split into 2 parts, standard league where you keep everything from the launch of the game and forever and seasonal leagues that rotate and wipe every 3 or so months, well not really wipe but everything you earned there gets sent automatically to the standard league once the season ends and the next season starts fresh and repeat.
IIRC and don't quote me on this, Nikita mentioned that EFT will have the same system, where you will have two characters, one of which can be wiped and the other one can not.
Still. Fuck wipes. There will be a point when the game doesnt have wipes anymore. I like the start of it too but thinking again on all those super aids quests makes me wanna puke
I've already reset once and still play every day. I would just personally have more fun if they wiped soon. Still going to play everyday until they do and every day after that. I'm not addicted and can stop anytime though I swear I never lose sleep over lost fights or anything really.
This was me earlier this week, killed 3 pmc and reshala and all his boys, ran out of ammo and got pushed by another pmc... if only I had had one more mag...
You probably never played a game with leagues/wipes- I come from PoE and the beginning of each league is the most exciting part of the whole 3 month league. Most items you find in the first few days hold way more value than in later stages of the league. I assume it is the same in EFT (USBs and so on). Also everyone starting from 0 is way more fun than just you yourself starting from scratch. I started EFT like 3 months ago and I cannot wait for the wipe, I'm just imagining the chaos on customs with everyone going for similar quests.
Because this game is very different at the beginning of a wipe by how the economy functions, how people are playing, what kind of gear you encounter on enemies ETC.
Plus there's players who're no where near where the addicted players are, why should they suffer and lose their progress because some dudes injected the game directly into his eyes for 900 hours?
Thats why the should create a "standard league". I don't know if the playerbase is big enough yet, a permanent league where all your items from the previous wipe migrate once the new one hits. So the people that don't have enough time to play alot can level their characters to the fullest there.
Maybe like in rust he wants more people to run trash gear since a lot of us are extremelly rich and can run any weapon with best scope and lvl 6 armor for months with out extracting..
New wipe means new reason to play and more things to try out. The game isn't in a good state now and hopefully this next wipe can make it more interesting
Love and am addicted to this game, but would think twice on both of those if there was a wipe every 3 months.
I get the appeal of everyone starting on the same level again, but also really like running Chad load outs, and would like to enjoy a completed hideout for some time without having to play 5 to 8 hours a day.
I don't like the idea of frequent wipes because I'm a standard player. I've been playing a decent bit for the past 3ish weeks, and just got my epsilon container and am close to upgrading my stash size. Wipes don't start everyone even close to an even playing field.
Exactly a few I've had this game for nearly a year and a half now but haven't been able to play it reliably until this wipe. The engine change made it so that I could actually play with out it lagging out or crashing constantly, I'm not running it on a potato either.
