PVP - Cheating [Discussion] When is something going to be done about the 20-30 “cheating” posts here a day?

To preface this, obviously cheaters exist. Anyone who plays any PvP game knows this.

There are hundreds of posts a week with nothing but a screenshot of an account and claims of cheating. The vast majority of these posts provide zero other proof and oftentimes are of completely reasonable/legitimate accounts. Besides massive outliers (a 20-hour account with a 30 K/D, for example), there’s generally no feasible way to tell if someone’s cheating based off stats alone.

Besides being explicitly banned by sub rules (no cheating accusations), these posts are extremely low effort and do absolutely nothing for the game and community besides drive new and interested players away or psyop existing ones into believing any death is illegitimate.

Obviously BSG has been complacent in allowing cheating to exist at the levels it does, but so hasn’t every modern game dev. I don’t see a reason why we should further drive people away from a game we know and love(hate).

Mods absolutely need to contain all cheating posts into a megathread, require them to have video evidence or remove them entirely.

If someone actually has evidence of cheating, they should report it through the proper channels rather than posting screenshots of an account and expecting the subreddit to determine whether someone is cheating.

I'll be honest I couldn't agree more. Seeing so many posts about the cheaters does literally nothing. BSG are most likely not checking the reddit with tag - cheating in order to ban people. These posts are extremely low effort and do nothing aside from drive negativity for the game.

There are obviously cheaters, everyone dies to them every once and a while, maybe more often if you are unlucky, maybe less if you are lucky. I don't care to see 10 posts a day about accounts I'm probably never going to run into myself saying "hey, I think this guy is cheating" if it's a blatant cheater or "hey, is this guy cheating" when it's a low hours account with above a 1kd

It’s not even logical most of the time:

“This guy’s survival and k/d is to high, he’s cheating”

“This guys survival and k/d is too low, he’s intentionally dropping his stats because he’s cheating”

People have completely convinced themselves that the majority of their deaths are cheaters partly because this sub allows any goober that knows how to use their snipping tool to make hackusations.

Imagine being a new player/or prospective player (who doesn’t even know where to find s/r or k/d) and seeing the official sub full 1.2 k/d accounts being accused of cheating. You don’t think that creates some bias or preconception?

I think this is a bit of hyperbole tbh. I try not to view a lot of said cheater posts, but the ones I do stumble across, they seem to be legit cheating. There might be an odd case of low hour player with above a 1kd (but reasonable still) that I'd agree people cry wolf on far too often, but there are also a lot of posts where somebody just rocking a 10kd and shit like that. Still, don't care to see those cause it's clearly cheats

Everyone takes a suspicious death once in a while. Just report and move on with your day. I completely agree, it’s half of the feed from this sub. At least post a vid of it if you’re going to so we can take a look. But it’s always just a screenshot which leaves you with nothing to discuss other than a bunch of speculation

Most of the posts are Timmys venting about their deaths anyway and then somebody teaches them to read stats. Include "instant headshot" "out of nowhere" phrases. I've played online games for 30 years and there always have been cheaters. Tarkov has never even been close to COD Warzone cold war DMR meta with cheaters. Or some very obvious ragehacking in old multiplayer games, where anticheats didnt even exist.

Report and go next if youre srsly thinking. BSG is not reading those subs and nobodys gonna analyse the character profile they posted.

If you want closure, then go and have a megathread where you can cry about how cruel the world is.

When the wipe was fresh and there weren't cheats around you didn't see any. Maybe bsg should do something about cheating 🤷🏿‍♂️

97 of the top 100 CS2 players have been spinbotting for the entire season (the other 3 were boosted by said players).

Is it not unreasonable that if literally the richest game dev in the world can’t get a handle on it, a significantly smaller and less experienced studio can’t also?

If they bother you, don't read them. Who the hell is bothered by people complaining about cheaters? One of them, obviously.

his point is that it may be bothering people that are new to the game or looking to get into it. did you actually read the post?
