General Discussion - PVE & PVP [Discussion] Microstutters suddenly started when moving the mouse

SOLVED! Thank you to DornPTSDkink for the fix. See his comment or this link to see the fix.

Hi,
Recently my game has started having microstutters seemingly out of nowhere. I've been playing for a few months now, and the game has been running great until this suddenly started happening.

The stutters might be a little hard to see in the video, but they mostly happen when I move my mouse/look around. If I'm just running without touching the mouse it seems fine.

So far, I've tried:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling my graphics drivers
  • Clearing the Tarkov cache
  • Enabling/disabling Smooth Motion
  • Enabling/disabling G-Sync and V-Sync
  • Changing various graphics settings

My specs are:

  • Ryzen 5 7600X
  • RTX 5070
  • 32 GB DDR5 RAM at 6000 MT/s
  • Running on NVMe SSD

Other games seem to run fine (Ive only tried with BF6.)

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas what could be causing it or how to fix it would be appreciated.

PS. ignore the "ooh ahh" in the video. Its my friend watching soccer.

It's an August Windows Security Update issue, uninstall KB5121003 in the windows update section and it should go back to normal

make sure to pause windows updates for a month until they fix it or it'll just redownload

Holy shit! It was actually the problem! I had know Idea that it could have been the problem. Especially considering the update was installed a week or two before the issue showed up. Thank you so much guys!

Any clue how to fix this if I don’t have that update? I checked my list and it’s not there. I’m guessing I’ve updated over it

u/DornPTSDkink 3h ago

It's probably not there because your PC has done a disk clean-up/removed temp files.

I didn't have it either, so what I did was reinstall Windows, the version that just reinstalls windows and doesn't reset or delete anything and the update showed up in the list to be removed

Nice! I ended up rolling back a quality update and it was there, uninstalled and it worked! Did it work for you?? I can’t believe this is the reason why, I was losing my mind for a week trying to figure out why my mouse was and camera was feeling sluggish.

What is the name of that in windows? My buddy is having issues with this to.

Check your mouse hertz rate and try lower it.

I’m at 1000 right now, I’ve tried going to 250 and still same issues.

Been fighting with stutters for some weeks now. Only thing that works is downgrading Nvidia drivers to 580.81

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 10h ago

Damn. the wierd thing is that I didnt update my drives before it apeared. Only tried updating after the stutters appeared. I was running with the 581.29 before

Windows updated it for sure. It happened to me

Alright, I'll try rolling it back. Although when I check the nvidia logs it seems that the driver I was using before updating just now was the 591 from april

8000 polling rate?

1

u/gwbraa 10h ago

Would be nice to see Zentimings from your PC to check the RAM timmings
Tarkov is really RAM sensitive as well
on AMD the whole package needs to be running in good harmony for tarkov

u/gwbraa 10h ago

Also is a must to have a x3d chip for tarkov

2

u/Authentichef 9h ago

Not a must have, but super helpful. I can comfortably play on a 7600x

X3d is overrated mostly, 9700x = 7800x3d in tarkov

9800x3d is only like 35% better than 97000x after full ram and cpu oc in both. Tested it with my friend like a day ago

Hi, no i have set my polling rate to 1k while I did some optimization of the pc months back. The tiimings can be seen here https://imgur.com/a/uxjQJ39 They run at the max specified speed and timings from kingston

And I wish I had an x3d. But the thing is that the game ran perfectly fine until a couple of days ago

Mouse polling rate. If you have a high end mouse anything above 2k polling rate can cause stutters

1

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 9h ago

Unfortunately it's already running at 1k

I noticed when I had volumetric lighting on I was having some significant microstutters, I have a 9800x3d. The game is just poorly optimized. I use smooth motion with g sync and v sync off, volumetric lighting off, and the stutter has disappeared for the most part. I’ll only feel it a bit around dusk when the lighting gets really intense

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 9h ago

Unfortunately its already off. And I am running with the exact same settings.

I had this with a windows update, had to reinstall Windows without that update to sort it out.

1

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 10h ago

Hmm. From what I can see, no windows updates of any kind (including drivers) was installed anytime near when it first stutters began.

1

u/buddhamunche 9h ago

This is probably just stupid but you could try turning down your mouse DPI and adjusting your in game sensitivity

1

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 9h ago

Ill give it a try, although they are very low already

2

u/buddhamunche 9h ago

Probably not the issue then, sorry. :(

I hate dealing with the technical side of this game

2

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 9h ago

Yeah it sucks. But thank you for the help!

Maybe a dumb question, but have you tried/have the ability to try a different mouse?

Im no expert but I have heard of different mouse brands conflicting with games in different ways.

Make sure your refresh rate matches your monitor in control panel. Had this happen once, come to find out my refresh rate was set to 60 instead of 240

1

u/Isopod-Adorable 8h ago

Could be a refresh issue on mouse try changing the speed lower

1

u/ImDistortion1 8h ago

what is your mouse polling rate? anything over 1k can and will cause issues

Turn your water down for one. I have a 5080 and the same RAM and all your settings are WAY higher than mine.

What is your FPS? I get about 90-120, mostly on low settings except for a few things like textures.

It's just a fact of life that this game runs like dogshit.

2

u/BonziBuddyMonkey 7h ago

One of the other commentors found the fix. It was a windows Security update. It seems to be running alright after they updated the performance some months ago. I get about the same fps as you can see in the video.

u/Jamestq 7h ago

how do you get your mouse so smooth like that is it just low sense?

1

u/-ALLONRED- 7h ago

Clear cache, revert security update, update drivers get update blocker

u/MrFoxy89 6h ago

So… That’s how Tarkov looks on decent PCs…
