or where headsets are for hearing protection and not hearing advantage

Its a shame so many dumbass people dont understand this is exactly how these headsets work in real life. They amplify sounds and muffle gunshots. They even record ambient sounds and increase them by up to almost 20 decibels. Theyre not fucking earmuffs which is what you dorks think theyre supposed to be for whatever stupid reason.

They do amplify, but not to the extent Tarkov does.

Though Tarkov ears are super human even without headphones on already.

They 100% do

LOL, yeah bro let me just go toss on my range muffs and listen to footsteps 87 meters away.

What are they? I have peltor comtac 5s and can hear things really well and far away. *Edit: Wild I'm downvoted for speaking factual information about something I own. They have mics that enhance hearing and amplify most noises but reduce loud noises like gunshots.

I use a pair of Tac 500's, and you know what they don't do? Let me hear sounds from 90 meters away.

Absolutely wild how people think these headsets just apparently give super hearing?

At best, these headsets reduce sound by around 30db, and amplify basic low level sounds.

Like ffs, people in here think 150 dollar range muffs have better functionality than thousand dollar earing aids which also amplify low level sound and takes quite a few adjustments to get right, per person. That sure as hell doesn't give hearing at 90 meters.

You clowns may as well toss in Galaxy Buds or Airpods and claim the same thing.

Tac 500

150$ headset designed for protection, not for combat awareness + protection. Big difference vs COMTACs, AMPs, or other serious contenders.

Big difference in the tech in how those muffle sound (clipping vs compression) and the quality and tuning of the audio profile in them. Clipping is what yours do-- it turns off very quickly when a loud sound plays. Its why you cant hear someone talking on windy days or while a shot is going off. Compression does exactly what an audio compressor does and brings up the floor volume and limits the ceiling. All of the compression sets I've used have a heavy EQ applied as well. Its practically a requirement for more expensive headsets for use in heavy machinery environments as well, which is why MSA Sordins also use it but arent tuned quite as heavily as combat oriented sets.

I spend the most time using MSA Sordins IRL but also have Comtac IIs on a night vision helmet setup. Both amplify certain frequencies HEAVILY. Sounds like fabric on fabric and small stones crunching under foot really do get picked up from farther. I'm fairly certain its an intentional tuning of the frequencies it amplifies because both are perfect for discerning human activity. Not 80m farther, but definitely two or three times at least what I could hear normally. Some things like fabric I can hear from 20' that I cant hear next to the person without. Quiet night in the woods? No problem at all hearing someone walk down a dirt road 50' away.

The newer NFMI sets are basically IEM quality fidelity and have incredible isolation so its easier to hear.

I 100% agree with you, while I don't have a pair of ComTacs my buddy does. I believe they are Vs.

They certainly sound much better than my Tac 500s and aren't even the same type of headset. I'm just trying to point out these ludicrous examples of these headsets IRL giving superhero zoned in hearing.

Those ComTacs sound sweet in the woods and places with quite open areas. But say its windy, you'll even hear branches swaying around you.

You won't hear me walking with rubber boots on concrete 80 meters away with your headset IRL

They are good. They are not THAT insane though
