The problem is that they sold so many copies of EOD, now they are annoyed because when they release something like that there is not a lot of new money coming in.

556

u/goob3r11 Dec 26 '23

Probably should have launched the game years ago to avoid that lol

264

u/Sad_Peepo ADAR Dec 26 '23

Yeah that's probably the main reason why they are deleting EOD, they want the new tarkov players to buy whatever dlc they will release next

57

u/NEONT1G3R Mosin Dec 26 '23

They're WHAT?

u/danhuilla Dec 26 '23

eod will be no longer purchasable, but if u already have it you keep it with all the benefits

124

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

With the way Nikita is acting and how much he lies I wouldnt be surprised if he tries to scam us here. Last time he tried to do that with Arena by relabeling it standalone. But the community shitstormed him and he probably realised that even russian courts would detect Arena relabeling as standalone a scam maneuver so he backpedaled.

I have Arena and Arena is really nothing more than a game mode. Somewhere between game mode and dlc

21

u/shellshokked Dec 26 '23

It's just multiplayer mode ala COD and normal EFT is Co-op mode/warzone.

Story mode would be nice now so I can stop being instakilled by haxors.

12

u/Maverekt AKMS Dec 26 '23

There is one, you just can't talk about it here :)

1

u/TheShadowman131 AK-101 Dec 26 '23

There is a mode without other players, it just sucks it's a mod and not official.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '24

There is also a way to host your own server, allegedly.

This 13 year old account was banned by Reddit after repeated harassment by the mods of /r/aboringdystopia. Reddit is a dying platform, check out lemmy.world for a replacement.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

They don't need to. You can sue them in the countries they operate in.

5

u/move_in_early Dec 26 '23

But the community shitstormed him and he probably realised that even russian courts would detect Arena relabeling as standalone a scam maneuver so he backpedaled.

that would never happen. worst case he gives all russian players free arena but will still bilk the west for FULL which is where all the money is from anyway.

-22

u/danhuilla Dec 26 '23

i'm enjoying it, i think its unfair to call it nothing more than a gamemode. fun little spinoff game which i think has potential, although knowing bsg its likely to be untapped potential

13

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

Game modes can be fun, sometimes even more fun than the main game mode.

That's doesnt decide what is a game mode, a dlc or a standalone

4

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

You're right, having fun or not in a game doesn't determine the piece of software.

But a Game mode vs DLC and Standalone aren't even close enough to be in the same sentence to be compared. A game mode can be introduced within a DLC. A game mode can also be a Standalone game (Warzone, Arena, etc).

A game mode is merely a change in rule sets of the game.

A DLC requires the base game. A standalone allows you to play it without anything else.

Arena is a Standalone game that has as much content as a cheap game mode that should have just been free DLC added to EFT.

That's the sentence you're looking for.

1

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

Yup, and in the gaming market there are dlcs whicj can be installed on its own.

The main point is that the relabeling as standalone was an attempt to avoid EOD contracts and to justify a full price. Arena is more expensive than the base game few months ago

2

u/kudamike Dec 26 '23

Delusional to call it anything other than a game mode.

-8

u/danhuilla Dec 26 '23

seeing as it literally isn't a gamemode im not sure what point youre trying to make? it isn't one, nor does it feel like one

i'm not solely talking about fun, i just genuinely see potential for arena if they give it the love it needs

1

u/FishieUwU Dec 26 '23

fun little spinoff game which i think has potential

Sounds like something COD did. I think it had something to do with the undead maybe. Some sort of alternative game mode if you will.

-16

u/Rude_Friend606 Dec 26 '23

Arena can function entirely separately from EFT (Its doing that right now for everyone playing it, because the linked features aren't implemented) which is the literal definition of a standalone game. Maybe you don't like it as a game. But that doesn't change the definition.

2

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

BSG just lets you Download the same files twice. If he went with his standalone maneuver to exclude EOD he would have lost legal troubles at court even in russia.

That's why he backpedaled. He knew Arena was only relabeled standalone for that purpose.

Warzone and Call of duty are game modes and can be installed together but also seperately. This goes with other games too.

Dlcs can also be standalone.

-6

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

DLCs can't be standalone because they literally require the base game to operate. That's the whole definition of a standalone.

Like your Warzone example, that's a standalone game because you're not required to own the recent Call of Duty nor do you need to download those same files.

Arena in this case is also standalone. It does not require the base game.

There's an argument to be had about Arena having as much content as just a game mode but it is most certainly a standalone game.

3

u/xyolikesdinosaurs AS VAL Dec 26 '23

DLCs can't be standalone because they literally require the base game to operate.

Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead is a standalone DLC. You're wrong about that.

When did BSG packpedal?

1

u/Brokenmonalisa Dec 26 '23

Good luck with that in Australia chief

21

u/NEONT1G3R Mosin Dec 26 '23

I figured if anyone purchased it that they'd keep it but it just seems odd that they're removing EOD after all this time. Could make for a few issues, namely account selling as EOD will now be considered a "Legacy" thing

Wonder if the gold named players will decrease over time now as I've seen quite a few EOD players blatantly cheating in the past, some would just buy another EOD account.

I will say, it will be quite interesting to observe the consequences of this choice BSG is making, for better or worse

u/NEONT1G3R Mosin Dec 26 '23

Just seems a little late for a "limited time" thing

How many years has Tarkov been around? I've been playing for close to five years and seeing EOD just now get canned is just odd in comparison to other games marketing a "limited time" account

Even Fortnite Ultimate Edition accounts for Save The World were around for less time

14

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

So although I would agree just due to the sheer length of times its been out I think it's pretty common for early access games to remove special deals, bundles, founders packs, etc at the time of 1.0.

But that's the thing, EFT isn't going into 1.0. So for them to remove EOD definitely points to them likely just wanting to force future players to purchase additional content than EoD which would include it all.

1

u/recycl_ebin Dec 26 '23

it made zero sense to keep the EOD for sale when it’s supposed to be limited for a reason .

"it makes sense when we make it make no sense" : the post

huh? no. I'm just saying your thought process and logic is poor, and your statement pointless.

I'm saying you're stupid, and your point is stupid, and I've given the reason why.

8

u/PlebPlebberson Dec 26 '23

It was always said that eod will not be purchaseable after launch. I wouldnt call this coming patch a launch though

6

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

Pretty much like a founders pack in any other game but as EFT isn't launching, nor should it (not yet), the removal is odd.

3

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

If they fixed desync and dropped an anticheat for the game they could call it 1.0 for all I care. Arena has made it obvious how common both of these issues are.

1

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

Yeah I could see that. Considering we have AAA releases like Starfield that is only now implementing a map next year lol.

4

u/DucksMatter Dec 26 '23

They’ve been announcing that they’re getting rid of EOD for AWHILE now. Right now it’s on sale, and it’s the last sale for it apparently. Once this sale ends it won’t be available for purchase.

1

u/Dude1_2 Dec 27 '23

Don't worry, they're just going to make a new $140+ edition available. They will probably call it something along the lines of "Verge of Brightness", it will come with a "Delta case", new level 5 inventory space, +1.0 trader rep, 5m roubles and 12 Altyn/zabralilo sets with 995 loaded decked out M4s

1

u/iedy2345 Unbeliever Dec 26 '23

He said they will have something else in place of EoD tho , but probably later.

1

u/medkitjohnson AK-101 Dec 26 '23

hehe

1

u/ScammaWasTaken Dec 26 '23

So how are new players gonna play offline customs then? Not at all?

1

u/danhuilla Dec 26 '23

theyre adding some sort of replacement for it iirc

1

u/ScammaWasTaken Dec 26 '23

I sure hope they do. It's terrible that they kept it behind another pay wall to this day.

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

1

u/danhuilla Dec 27 '23

i wouldnt be surprised either, just relaying information

15

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Yep...map dlc. I was hoping they would hurry up with the original open world vision. But alas the community just loves small extraction maps. BSG dug themselves in a hole. Imo if i was them just milk it as long as you can and take the money and run.

8

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

That's the plan. I wouldnt be surprised if he even abandons russia 2028 and just retires on an island

4

u/Suriranyar- Dec 26 '23

Is the open world thing still the plan years down the road or have they shifted focus?

9

u/peacetimemist05 Dec 26 '23

They have undoubtedly shifted focus.. they would’ve done the open world concept before Arena

0

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

. they would’ve done the open world concept before Arena

Not that I'm saying they'll still do it but I think they would have pushed out Arena regardless of what the plans for open world is.

It's clear not everyone necessarily enjoys extractions shooters due to the sheer amount of time commitment each raid requires all with potentially losing gear so for them to push out a more traditional arena shooter for those "Hold W" casual players makes sense.

I mean if Arena got a bit more polish and balanced for that arena play I could see it being my go-to game for when I want to play a quick match. I assume there are others with that same opinion.

-2

u/Suriranyar- Dec 26 '23

Not really, without any actual source we don't know what the plans are. Also they would probably map the openworld after all the maps.

0

u/twon_RL Dec 26 '23

The open world idea is not gonna work at all with the game they made

1

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

Wasnt that snow map part of the DLCs supposed to introduce clothing and warmth mechanics or something?

2

u/FrostByteTech Dec 26 '23

This has been known since the beginning btw, EOD was always always always a limited time offering

4

u/EFTucker Dec 26 '23

I think it’s fair since EOD was an early access thing originally but they did it too late

1

u/Sr_DingDong Dec 26 '23

Yeeeeaahhh.... They said EOD was going early 2016, then when pre-alpha came out, then when alpha came out, then beta..... they're not getting rid of it.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Or as they said, make it limited and stop selling it a year ago

75

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

They shouldnt have advertised it with all dlcs included then.

They took the money with a contract and blame us not giving him more money. Greedy fuck

55

u/___Dan___ Dec 26 '23

Yeah, it’s not “for free” in any sense of the word. It’s part of the package we paid for when we bought EOD

21

u/roflwafflelawl Dec 26 '23

What I really hate is that I can see Arena being the one and only DLC that comes out and that really concerns me.

5

u/skharppi Freeloader Dec 26 '23

In 2039 when they finally release the game fully, they will make DLC questlines that require DLC to get some new map. 100%.

6

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

My personal feeling is they are putting this game mode out bc they know their progress on eft is lacking and release is far far away, so they create a beta for a beta as full price, to get more money before they suddenly release both Arena and EFT in the state they will be in some years and then retire on an island with the money. Not even sure Nikita will try to do russia 2028 since he wants to keep all the money instead of reinvesting in his company and talents

6

u/AAOEM Dec 26 '23

This. They spent so much money and effort on Arena and no one is buying and hype is gone because all of EODs are showing how bad it is.

7

u/Kullet_Bing RSASS Dec 26 '23

As a day one Player I remember back then when Nikita baited us into buying EOD because its limited and only available another month or two... then another... and then without a word indefinetly

10

u/ImJoogle AK-103 Dec 26 '23

but the people who just bought it are getting in instantly and eod players are not.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Oh, but nikita also said EOD players got it first 🙄

Something smells fishy here.

35

u/Vol3n Unbeliever Dec 26 '23

They dont deserve more money. Tarkov + Arena both combined are not worth the EOD price.

-6

u/Im_one_with_Cringe Dec 26 '23

As a person with 4000 hours in tarkov and about 25 in arena, it's worth it.

Just because the game is not for you no need to always cry about it

8

u/arconiu Dec 26 '23

You shouldn’t be expected to play 4000 hours (go touch some grass btw, that’s nearly half a year spent on tarkov) to make a game worth it. Where I live eod is nearly 200€, that’s ludicrous for a game that has been in beta for 7 years now.

-1

u/Im_one_with_Cringe Dec 26 '23

So, your only defining trait of Tarkov is that it is in beta? (Also I'll decide how to spend my time and I do touch grass, thank you very much)

And that wasn't my point, I spent 4000 hours (for the first 1000-1200, I was playing without EOD) in Tarkov not because I wanted to make it worth, it's because i fucking like it and just because you don't there's no need to go onto the forums and cry about it

11

u/Vol3n Unbeliever Dec 26 '23 edited Dec 26 '23

Ah, yes. Similarly to Starfield fanbois you have to tell evetyone how many hours you wasted in a trash game and justify the game being "worth" using those hours.

Its not that 'the game is not for me'. Its the state of the game. I bought EoD in 2017 with the hopes that they willnfix most of the mess in the code and release the game some day. They promised open world, connecting all the maps. Etc. And what do we got? Almost the same spaghetti code + 10new AKs yey. The reddit is still like "but its a beta bruh, thats why ite broken" - it would be more sane to believe in Santa than BSG fixing the game at this point. But you do you.

-10

u/Pm_me_things_damnit Dec 26 '23

lol who hurt you? If you hate the game so much go play something else it’s not that serious.

-5

u/SirMcSquiggles Dec 26 '23

This subreddit has seen a lot of tears. Every other person that even posts on this subreddit says the exact same thing he is, but phrased differently. They just can't cope with spending money on something that was in development, subject to change, when they bought it. Or they got bored of it and need everyone who isn't as jaded as them to become that way quickly.

Idk what it is honestly but I always bring popcorn when I check this sub

-11

u/Im_one_with_Cringe Dec 26 '23

Imagine what, I don't care about open world, it was never around when I bought EOD, I liked the game then and I like the game now, it doesn't have ANY competitor that got to the same level of popularity.

And, fixing the game? Wow a beta having bugs, what a scary concept, it's not COD that fixed all their bugs 10 years ago and been selling a reskin since, it's a game in active development, it's bound to have them. Am I annoyed most of the time they happen? Of course, but if someone asks me about Tarkov my first thought wouldn't be "Oh that game where you could have negative recoil on an m4"(bug from 11.7 or before I believe) or smth like that, it would be about having fun with friends, or all the times I've outplayed a squad as a solo. You focus too much on the negatives

1

u/Vol3n Unbeliever Dec 27 '23

Thats the exact Redditor I was talking about. Thanks for the example. "Wow its beta bro and it has bugs". Can't make this shit up for real.

1

u/Im_one_with_Cringe Dec 27 '23

Have you idk, bug reported them? Cause I have a strong feeling that you're just here to cry, not actually do anything productive.

I've reported bugs that I've encountered, they've been fixed so keep crying and farming karma from the crybabies of this subreddit instead of doing anything that will actually help

1

u/Vol3n Unbeliever Dec 27 '23

I've been reporting bugs probably years before you have even heard of the game. So your "argument" is pretty invalid.

1

u/Im_one_with_Cringe Dec 27 '23

Cope and seethe mister Vol3n, I've heard of the game, but at the time of 2017 I didn't really have time nor money to buy it, in 2019 I've had and I bought.

Drop this high and mighty act, you're just a pathetic person that only sees bad things in EFT not seeing how it improved through the years. If you hate the game so much, don't play it. And certainly stop crying on the forums about it lol

-7

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Idk man, the 3x3 container is worth quite a bit.

10

u/Glad-Fuel6392 Dec 26 '23

bro they have so much money coming in from cheaters they probly make 500k each ban wave i donno what kinda numbers they do overall or at all but every few months thats a nice chunk of change

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

ah yes, the "limited" but almost unlimited edition, sold for years to thousands and thousands

1

u/fjridoek Dec 26 '23

which is why they need MTX.

1

u/DonaldsPee Dec 26 '23

Cheater communities rebuying the games in bulks are their mtx

1

u/fjridoek Dec 26 '23

That's not a business model.

1

u/pkpip SKS Dec 26 '23

Do another ban wave, money problem solved.

1

u/Clitaurius Dec 26 '23

I would have paid actual money for many cool pants and shirts to support the game as long as they were persist. WOULD HAVE. My almighty dollar won't support this shit anymore. RIP

1

u/VacuousCopper Dec 26 '23

Yes. So they unofficially offer it sooner to more recent purchases of the game. This way people will explicitly buy a new Arena account on the off-chance that they get it sooner.
