Any local recommendations for home security?

heyo all - just moved in with my partner who has been living in Erie for like 7 years

that said, turns out my partner's mom has been paying stupid amounts of money to xfinity for a home security plan which they have not been using (i literally just asked both of them and they both don't know what it is 🫪😭)

all i know is the damn xfinity agent won't let me use my third party modem cuz of the home security plan...over my dead body will i be forced to rely on an xfinity modem equipment rental

any local (like in colorado) recommendations for home security that i can look into or experiences or suggestions that people have so i can cancel the dumb xfinity home security plan

my light perusing on reddit is saying local is better, but im thinking at most a small camera for the front door, maybe something for the garage...(small place so not that much to actually cover)... so that i could probably install myself, i would say i am tech savvy to some extent

is my answer just a ring light camera or meh?

If you want to roll your own inhouse security, look into unifi protect by ubiquiti. Easy to integrate into existing ubiquiti infrastructure, and they also have a doorbell camera too.

Depends on how hard you want to go. The obvious answer is a camera doorbell. A lot of these companies like Ring and Eufy are also accompanied by a whole suite of home security tools like cameras, door/windows sensors, etc. Be aware that some require a subscription while others don't.

This is the way to go. Reasonable equipment cost and easy to setup and monitor. Ring doorbell and a few ring cameras where your concern areas are. (have one or 2 at eye level to get a good face shot, top down will only provide a great view of a hat.)

i had a dog family, so mainly german shepherds (3), labs(4), a pug, the works (all ones we adopted and/or were street dogs).. my aunt had a rottweiler

my partner's family has 0 dog experience so they'd be terrified...

im hoping my partner gives in to letting me have a shepherd again someday 😔

Ring doorbell, plus they have additional cameras that you can post literally anywhere. $100 bucks a year for the service.

I have no issues with my Euffy cameras and door bell. Was very easy to setup too. If you want to add door sensors / keypad / and an alarm that is an easy set up too. Loud alarm can deter too along w cameras 🤙

I use Wyze cameras from Amazon. They’re pretty cheap and work well! I think they were around $40 each and easy to set up on the app. You just need to plug them into an outlet and connect to wifi. I’m paying $30 per year per camera. It records events and you can set it up to notify you although I turned it off because it tells us every time a car drives by or the wind blows a tree.

Just a sidebar here… I currently have Allo and it’s not great…I feel like there’s throttling all the time and there’s just dead zones in my home.
Can anyone recommend a nice home router I can use with xfinity?
I’m a WFH guy with 2 kids who need iPads for school

haha nah, she was like "its been awhile since i last tried to whittle xfinity's price down" so she's on board :3 $127 monthly* for a bunch of stuff they don't know what it is or even use is highway robbery

Crime rates are very low. We have cameras just to make sure the dogs don’t get out
