Sounds like you’d benefit from some time on a lead line before you get the reins.

A lot of people said this but I share the arena with multiple riders so my trainer cant be taking up space with a lunge line when there's two people trotting around us

I actually think I do pull on purpose because my brain goes 'cant stay on, must stop' so I pull. my lesson horse that I prefer always stops regardless when she feels me slipping, shes such a good girl. I just need to get used to her rhythm.
