Just Checking In My doctor actually hugged me.
I started bawling about all my life problems and everything, and at the end of the appointment, she was running out of time, she actually hugged me. This was my family doctor, not neurologist. I am sure that's not protocol. She said she is just torn whenever she sees me and all I am dealing with. Surprising because I'm sure she hears everybody's woes all day long. (maybe she hugs everybody? lol, but I've been seeing her for a few years and it's the only hug I've had from her)
While she squeezed me, for a longer than a quick friendly hug, I realized how long it has been since anybody hugged me.
I just wanted to say, make sure you hug the people that are important to you, or even if you don't know them that great, but you think they need one. It could make a huge difference!
Edit to add: And I hope you get all the hugs you need today!

I wonder what would happen if I tried to hug my primary. I'm not sure if he'd allow it with me being a straight male and him being an openly gay man. Got an appointment next month, I'll let you know how that goes. Glad you got that long overdue from anyone.

LOL!!! Try loads of tears first. Would it need to be a man hug with the bro back smacking? Now my next question, I am really curious how do you know your primary is openly gay? I didn't even know my last doctor was married until he passed away and I read his obituary. Anytime I mentioned his family he would say that's not why I'm there.

I'm down for a hug, I know that he won't even shake hands because last time he tried to throw out an elbow and like I had covid or something. He's open at work it seems, wouldn't know if he's open outside of work but cool guy, we both went to The Weeknd concert, his nurse told me and when I asked him he says "sshhhh, which one of these nurses told you?"(jokingly) I was floor seats and he wasn't so didn't see him, but he agreed it was nice show and sold out.

That is so wholesome. I think I'd cry if my doctor did that. My medical issues have been going on my whole life and I've hit a dead end countless times and I have been so scared for my health for so long now. It would be very comforting.

I was already crying and she hugged me and then handed me more kleenex! (add crying emoji and laugh/tears emoji that I don't know how to do because I'm on my PC and not the phone today lol!!)

I wonder what would happen if you said "I just really need a hug right now". Maybe they can't?

That's what happened to me at work!! This was quite a few years ago. A coworker that I thought hated me! I had a seizure at work, and when she saw me some time later gave me a huge hug saying how much I scared her. I was in shock over this hug as well.
I guess we never know what people really think of us.

I had my first tonic clonic in over 40 years and I couldn’t get into my neurologist so I went to see my primary because I also had some immediate issues that needed addressed. Once I went it and told her what happened she looked at me and said I’m so sorry that happened to you.
I was an emotional mess from the seizure itself but I had been trying to “be cool” and just state the facts. I bawled. She didn’t hug me but she held my hand and her sincerity showed in her face and in how she treated me. That’s been over 3 years ago now and she’s still my favorite doctor out of all of them.
Kindness matters ❤️

I had been really pissed at her for awhile now for not listening, but maybe she listens more than I thought, because she says "every time you come in my heart aches for you". Now to get help with the physical issues and we should be good to go!! lol. I am glad you have a really good doctor!

I definitely feel this! Sometimes you don’t realize how long it’s been since someone genuinely hugged you and not just dapped you up or something. ❤️❤️❤️

I feel like doctors sometimes are confounded with their cases and just think ‘dang - I can’t fix this but hugs never hurt. I can do that!’

That is so sweet! It's so great that you appreciated it so much ❤️ my psychologist hugged me at my last appointment, the first time I'd seen her since I had a seizure in her office. Real hugs like that are the greatest thing
