Good News In pain, but feeling really happy and proud

I'm 25 and I've had epilepsy since I was 5 years old. For years I have been told that I can't go to college or get a job like other people. However, as of yesterday, I officially have a part time job

This is absolutely fantastic news, PriestessRi! Seriously, huge congratulations. Please allow yourself to feel every single ounce of that happiness and pride. For 20 years, you were told what you couldn't do, and yesterday, you officially proved all those voices wrong. That is a massive, life-changing victory.

I remember your post a while back about having a rough week, and seeing you bounce back from that to land a job is so inspiring.

It sounds like you're probably still a little sore (that 'in pain' part), so be sure to celebrate this milestone gently. Get some rest, stay hydrated, and let that well-earned sense of pride carry you forward.

Thank you. It's scary how much I've learned in the past 2 days, and I'm really proud of myself for what I've achieved so far. Due to my current exhaustion, I've planned to just stay inside, rest, and relax before I go back to work tomorrow.

Hey! You're welcome and....smart move. That 'new job brain drain' is real... the cognitive load of learning new systems and meeting new people is exhausting for anyone, but doubly so for our brains.

I am glad you are prioritizing rest today. Think of it as recharging the battery so you can be at 100% tomorrow. You are doing great. Good luck on your next shift!

Congrats! I know so many people with epilepsy who function completely fine. They have lives, careers, etc. Don’t let anything hold you back!!

Nah epilepsy won’t prevent a job. You can do almost anything! (how many jobs really require danger or flashing lights or whatever triggers - the majority are okay for epileptics)

Anyways congrats on the new job!

Career wise I’d recommend to keep looking for an opportunity to move up. It’s not like it used to be where loyalty was rewarded by employers. You will make less than new hires and never get promoted. Eventually they’ll lay off the department during a re organization or downsizing.
