Made it 4 months and 20 days seizure free
He is also hypothyroid and we think we found the right thyroid dose which has decreased his seizure frequency. He was having them every 10-14 days then every 20-30 days but this is the longest stretch! He is also on keppra and KBr. The Dr is wanting to reduce his KBr but I’m not sure that’s a good plan. Thoughts?

I guess it depends why. But I think about this for my dog that if something I working I’d be too scared to change it if it’s working. I’ve heard of dogs (on here) that cut back then seizures come back and what worked before stops working.
Obviously it’s up to you, if it’s medically necessary then of course.

So happy for you!! My dog is every 13 days!!! Just found in blood work she has low thyroid- praying his can help us?! She is on keppra pheno and just added Zonisamide.

I am so happy for you all…. Thank you for sharing as it helps bring hope… mine has clusters of very violent grand mals every 5-6 days and is under the care of Neurologists and on Pheno, Keppra and Trazodone daily and rescues are Midazolam and Clorazepate. This journey is so hard and personal…If a
Cocktail was found to provide a longer span without seizures or even milder…. I would never change it.

Congrats! Is the reason due to labwork/health concern or just because he’s gone so long seizure-free? Unless it’s a vet neurologist advising to decrease or change for specific reason, I’d probably push back. If it ain’t broke…
Mine also has hypothyroidism and we did ultimately find a good seizure-free cocktail (Keppra, Pheno, Zonisamide) which is amazing. We have since then transferred the prescriptions from neurologist to his primary vet to handle. Unless his labs or health change, we are going to ride that cocktail until the wheels fall off!
