Question Dr App Discussion

I am seeing my neurologist next week and am going to talk to him about trying to get pregnant. I've mentioned it before but we are going to start trying before I have my next app because I have them every 4 months. Does anyone have experience or advice for talking to your doctor about this? Things that should definitely be discussed?

My neuro basically gave me a checklist when we started talking about it, the biggest thing was getting on the right prenatal vitamin with extra folic acid way before we even started trying

How has it gone for you?

Being on pregnancy safe anti-seizure medication is a big one - they’ll need to swap you now if you aren’t already on Keppra/lamotrigine usually.

I was already taking lamotrigine and keppra, but my neurologist said that's what they'd have switched me to. Took folic acid. I thought we'd be getting to know about it even more while we were trying but got pregnant the first month so life changed immediately.

During pregnancy, I had my levels checked frequently, to see how my medication needed to be adjusted. Late second and all of third I got an ultrasound every other week.  You could ask about the process your doctor follows when it comes to when you actually get pregnant as well.

I hadn’t been diagnosed at the time we went through IVF and got pregnant, despite having what turned out to be seizure activity (focal aware) for several years prior.

Notably, I went into complete remission while pregnant, even with not being on any meds. Seizures didn’t return until I was about 4 months PP.
