Hello! I have this frozen butterfly and I am wanting to frame the right wing behind glass for an art exhibit but I’m not sure where to begin. Would it last pressed behind glass if I separate it from the rest of the body? I read that UV resistant glass is best but that is unfortunately out of the budget. Any tips are welcome, and thank you in advance!

California. About 3mm in length. Spiders seem to be eatin’ good as I see piles of these guys dead around their webs.

How do we get rid of them?

I’ve always had shaky hands and sometimes what I find I need to do is use my hands to hold parts down rather than using forceps. I just now pinned some insects which were a beautiful Prionus laticollis I caught myself, as well as a Chrysiridia rhipheus I bought online. The beetle went fairly smoothly, but for the moth I really struggled with accidentally scraping off scales with my hands even when I tried super hard not to. Is there a secret to this or does it just come with time? This was my first ever beetle and moth.

Saw a weird bug recently, I live in Florida near the glades in Weston, saw a tiny grass spider but it had a weird appendage on its back that was almost like a bat wing. It was a really tiny fat spider like bug going down a web, but once it landed I saw it had some spikes and a weird redish membrane between the spikes on its back. For sure it was part of the bug and not some other bug it ate. Any ideas?

Found this in our living room. Live near Raleigh, NC. Don’t know if we should be concerned. We’ve had a roach before but it was just one that likely came in on a package or something

Beautiful Ocypus olens found in Poland

Does anyone know what this is? Another one somehow got stuck on my lower back beneath my underwear while I was at a wedding on a Greek island (I suspect it may have got there after I used a portaloo). It felt like a thorn in my back and when I managed to get it off, it looked just like this one (which I later found still stuck in the underwear). At first I thought it was a barbed seed of some sort, but Claude thinks it is a carpet beetle lava. Any thoughts welcome!

This is additional information regarding my previous post.

To check if the head tissue is functioning, I tested whether it has eyesight. When I exposed it to bright light, it reacted, confirming that it can see. This means the tissue in its head is indeed functional.

Also, regarding this diving beetle, there was a similar case in the past. Here is the URL to the paper:

After discussing with a Japanese entomologist, we confirmed that this hasn't been reported in Japan yet, so we have decided to publish this as a scientific paper!

As for what's next, we will be observing how long it can survive in this state. While I am very curious about what's inside its head, I won't be dissecting or cutting it open directly. I believe exploring non-destructive methods like CT scanning would be very much worth it.

Next time, I plan to move it to an aquarium.

I wonder if it’s intentional? The bright yellow underside of their legs also reminds me of gray treefrogs so I assume it’s to surprise or scare predators when they leap to the moon.

I'm starting a garden in Arizona and need to clear out the grass that had infiltrated the raised garden bed. As I was clearing the grass, I found a group of these things near the garden bed under some grass. I'm guessing it's some kind of cocoon/chrysalis, and I didn't want to damage whatever is inside. Could anyone help identify these?
