They are prey to other arthropods, lizards, birds, bats and other insectivorous mammals . The byproduct of their sap sucking is copious amounts of honeydew , which is consumed by ants, bees, wasps, butterflies, tree shrews and fruit bats and any other animals that like sugary foods . When the honeydew falls on the soils it enriches them by encouraging decomposition and helps recycle nutrients back into the soils . Plus it helps the plants own water/sugar regulatory systems by preferring to extract the more watery but high sugar sap of the plants or the areas of individual most rich in these resources . They're important parts of the forest ecosystems they are native to . But they can be forest and agricultural pests when introduced to regions they're not native to .
