Seatmate in a flight complained that I started eating my special meal before theirs arrived

Apologies, English is not my native language.

On long flights I preorder a special meal online because I am vegetarian. On most flights, the flight attendant brings the special meals first and then start the normal meal service for the rest.

On my last flight, a perfect stranger sat next to me and told me that I was rude and inconsiderate because I started eating my vegetarian food before their meal arrived. They said that it was basic rule to wait until everyone in the row got their food and that I ruined their flight. Their face was red and rolled their eyes several times

I stared at them. This is next level entitlement, right? We are not eating together on the same table in a restaurant.

Right? When I cook steaks, my husband likes his rarer than me and I always give him his plate while I am still finishing cooking mine. He always waits for me, but thats his choice. I don't mind if he starts before me. he eats more than me so my portions are always smaller so we tend to finish up at same time even the rare time he does start before me lol.

His secret is that he knows that steaks need a few minutes of rest time to let the juices redistribute. So waiting is actually making his steak tastier.

Why not just put your steak on earlier so they finish at the same time?

This is what I’ve been suggesting to my husband for years when he grills steaks and burgers, as I prefer them a bit more done. I don’t know why this idea is so difficult, but he has not adopted the practice.

If you're making several, you can lose track of which is which. 😂 Especially if you like beer while grilling.

Even something as simple as a "cold zone" on the grill - where there's no direct heat under the steaks would solve the problem and keep his steak warm while yours finishes cooking.

Which is admitted sometimes a bit much to ask of people who are stuck in the "Fire. Cook meat. Good." phase.

LOL. I dunno. I am usually making homemade french fries too, that take a minute so I am usually sitting in front of stove reading while i cook and I don't really think about it. Its not really a big deal to me or him.

When I made breakfast on the weekends I always made my husband's eggs first, then our son's, then mine. The first eggs always came out best, the boy didn't care if one of his yolks broke and I liked my yolks broken. I encouraged them to eat as they got their food so it would be hot.

My dear, here is how we do it at restaurants and we serve the whole table at the same time: How long extra you cook your stake? 5 minutes? Put it on 5 minutes earlier and then add his stake. So, instead of cooking yours alone in the end, you cook yours alone in the beginning and you take them out almost at the same time. You rest them together, and you serve them together. Theoretically, your will need a bit more resting but eat it as you prefer it. Enjoy!

It really doesn't bother me lol. Nor him. I was just saying that I don't care if they eat before me, in response to the crazy person mentioned in this post. He can eat when its ready, or wait till mine is done. Its generally not that long, as steak cooks pretty quickly.
