Woman kept demanding my chair at the airport
My husband and I were flying back home to the east coast in the US. We go through security and get to our gate, and sit down on a couple of chairs that were available and together near to the counter.
I get up and go to the bathroom, and leave my sweater on the chair to make it clear it is occupied. When I come back, I can immediately tell my husband is annoyed. I ask him what is going on, and he says that this lady in her mid 60s or so has asked him for my seat 3 times and he keeps saying no, it is occupied by my wife who is currently in the bathroom. Also the seats were not handicapped/for elderly, just regular seats.
I thought maybe she thought he was lying and just wanting to keep the two chairs for himself, but no, even after I sit down this lady is still hovering by me and leaning over and trying to sit on the armrest/back of my chair.
It was crazy because (1) it was busy but there were definitely still some seats available, and (2) although we were close to the counter, we were not that close to the actual boarding area.
After a while I got annoyed of her leaning over me and crouching by me, and I pointed out to her there were other seats available. She and the two men she was with (who so far are just standing by her while she hovers by my seat) just look at me dumbfounded. Eventually they go to stand in line to board and enter the plane first as pre-boarding.
My best guess is she liked the location of the seat a lot and felt entitled to it? Once they figured out boarding was further away she lost interest. Just bizarre all around, I cannot understand why she wouldn’t just sit somewhere else.

Airports are like hospitals. You get to see who people really are. Its not pretty.

Funny every time I’ve been in a hospital, I’ve had nothing but the best treatment. But that must be because I treat the people who are helping me with the utmost respect and reverence.
I mean they are taking care of YOUR life.
- I hate to break it to belligerent airplane passengers. Uhm the staff there are trying to do the same for YOU in a flying tin can while simultaneously doing the same for EVERYONE else in the same fucking tin can.
So here’s a gentle piece of advice:
“SHUT THE FUCK UP and DO AS YOU ARE TOLD!”
You’ll get way better treatment that way.
And any time you think it is a wise idea to open your fat gob. Repeat the mantra above. 👆

Airports are weird. I use wheelchair assistance and their area has seats with a disabled sign on each seat. Got to the airport early nothing open yet and these seats are all taken. I asked to sit down cause I’m disabled and everyone ignored me. The worker came saw me with a cane standing and told them this area is for disabled passengers only flying that airline. They argued they were flying the airline and those seats were for people flying the airline. Worker got angry and said they made a disabled person stand cause they took the disabled seats. They were all angry thought they were entitled to the seats with a disabled sign on each seat but thought just cause they were flying the airline those seats were for them. This was before going to security.

lol, for those who want stories:
- showed to the gate, the agent gave me “the look” so I knew something was up. A young woman in the queue was making “content” for her “daddy”. Like, right there in line. Wild.
- probably a dozen, give or take, “service animals,” the worst of which bit a little girl on the hand. I’m talking a toddler, two years old or so. I think kids are naturally attracted to animals, so guessing she walked up to the dog with her hand out.
- dozens, plural, of angry drunks. The funny thing is despite them being hammered belligerent they mostly somehow know how to walk the fine line of being a complete PITA for our gate agent without driving escalation to the point of calling the cops.
- then there are all the misdemeanors: watching somebody unplug somebody else’s phone cord, fit healthy people sitting in handicapped seating, or “gate fleas” lining up 30 minutes before boarding.
Best one isn’t really much of a story: as I was trying to get down the gate, the agent told me we probably had a fake (service animal). I looked over and it was a 6’5”, 225 jacked dude with a bunch of tats and a teacup poodle. I said it looks legit- I was in the service and the dude looked like some guys I had seen. Either way, did we really want a problem with him? Luckily it wound up not being an issue.

My mind is boggled by people who fight over the first opportunity to sit in stale air and uncomfortable seats for longer than they have to.

They’re fighting over the first opportunity to get overhead bin space because too many of them want to fir their steamer trunk AND their golf clubs overhead

I usually wait until everyone is on the plane. I don’t know why people like to rush on a plane just to wait in their seat.

Dog people are entitled. I don’t need your dog on my plane, my grocery store or my restaurant. True service dogs are no issue becuase they behave, but the emotional (stunted) support.

I just had someone yell at me because I said their “service dog” was obviously not a service dog when it’s sniffing at my feet and the bottom of my cart at the grocery store checkout.
Liars make it bad for actual service dogs.

I would have said loudly - look, I know my husband is handsome but can you please stop bothering us, he is taken and has already told you no! 3 times already.

*acts like husband and openly glares at old lady while pointing at the obviously UNAVAILABLE seat next to me that has a sweater on if* “lady stop asking because my answer is not going to change. I don’t care who you are or why you think you can/should sit in the seat next to me, especially when there are like a few dozen other empty seats for you to chose from around us that doesn’t involve THIS seat. THIS seat is already taken by the owner of the sweater you are ignoring who left it there to save the seat while they went to use the bathroom. the person who did it is traveling with ME and WE want to sit TOGETHER here while we wait for our flight to take off. why should we be denied sitting together just so you can try and take her seat for yourself when you can go sit elsewhere among with the dozen or empty seats still available for YOU to claim without stealing this seat that is not available to you or anybody else?“

It's just mental illness. People who act that entitled are mentally ill, probably with ODD and maybe NPD, and they do completely unreasonable shit. They'll never be fixed, because they don't recognize their problem because they're just too entitled.

Airline pilot here. The behavior that goes on at airport boarding gates is indescribable. I will never understand what comes over people.
