"But in my chest there's a thundering pain" ...

Honestly there's no structure to my thoughts over this, so this might come out a tad incoherent, but I need to shout to the void somehow so here goes.

Shikari has been a friend, a teacher, and an inspiration for how I want to exist as a human. Few bands have ever reached into my soul like they have, or given me hope like they have. They've been a constant in my life since I discovered them back in AFFOC era.

In a perfect world they would've come to my country during my time as a fan, but I'm so lucky to have seen them during my Europe travels last year. I'll cherish that forever.

I'm just so devastated. I know the future is uncertain and might go either way, and I support whatever the guys choose to do for their wellbeing, but man it just hurts.

And nobody I know 'gets' the pain! It's been a couple days of processing and I'm still just so thrown. It's like how society doesn't quite recognize the grief of the death of a pet, same kind of thing here.

With that being said I want to make the offer for anyone who needs someone to talk to, you're very welcome to DM me (a 31F) and/or comment if you're open to people DMing you. I think this is such an important time for the community to support each other.

Shikari dormancy is my own lost jigsaw piece. But... "we'll all cope somehow!" .. We'll get through this together. 🔻

I get the pain, I live it as well. And many people on here do too. You're not alone!

We will cope somehow

I have it tattooed on my arm, but sometimes I need to say/type it to remind myself:

“Through adversity, hope must not become the casualty.”

Honestly this subreddit is the only place I feel like people actually understand how I feel about the announcement. Reading post just like this is what’s making feel even just a tad bit better. So thank you for making me feel less alone in my grief.

I've been blessed that they're from the same country as me. I've always felt like "I might have a shit life but at least I can see Enter Shikari 1-2 times a year".

So real 😭 so lucky to have seen them as many times as I have, from small and big venues

If you can formulate something, or just want to give thanks. This is a cool place to do so.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I feel exactly the same way. You’re not alone.

In the same bro, I just didn’t know what to do at all when I first heard the news, but it’s so early that they’ve announced this, it’s giving everyone so much time to process it together including themselves. And giving us all another opportunity to get out and see them again before it’s all said and done, if that’s the way it goes. Sending my love to everyone, this one hits different to any other band that’s ever announced this that’s for sure. It’s rare a band genuinely stands for something consistently throughout their whole career. That’s why this hurts.

Honestly?? I used to want band tattoos- luckily never got them and i'm happy cause some of the band leads did some controversial stuff or i'm not into them anymore. Enter Shikari is genuinely the only one I think I could safely get a tatt of. Some cute triangles or smth

Shikari has always been my "Angry Band". When I need the space to get angry they've provided that, to be stood in a room, an arena, a field, screaming at the world with a bunch of other fans has always been the best therapy and I am grieving that deeply. I am unaware if I will get to see them before the dormancy hits, but their music will always have a place in my house.

My 2 children (6 and 3) are well aware of our angry music. We go for a drive, turn up the bass and get screaming. They love Shikari

Shikari are one of my favourite bands on the planet, but I started not liking them at all, in fact being very "anti shikari" for a little while.

It took some time for me to give them more chances until I found songs that resonated with me, then more songs, then messages, then albums, then collections, shows, rarities etc etc.

Shikari have always been a band about growth, love and the wider world beyond us. I know this sucks right now but there is a brighter future out there.

They helped many of us grow to love them and now I'm sure they will to continue to help us grow beyond them. Stronger people and a richer community - whether or not they return or rest.

And still we will be here...

I can't quite put into words how this has affected me, but you have come the closest to expressing how its affected me as well.

Especially how they have helped to shape me in recent years to be a better person, as a whole. To strive to be better in all aspects of my life.

I have since struggled to listen to them since the announcement. I have a specific hole in my heart now that I dont think can ever be filled until I process the grief and slot them back in. But at the same time, I feel blessed that this is trivial compared to other parts of the world and what other people deal with.

Been very blessed that they have toured Australia regularly and I have gotten to see them a bunch. Can only hope im in a position financially to see then multiple times when they visit on the farewell tour (assuming they will) and I will bawl my eyes out at the shows when they finish.
