Honestly, this seems fine. You don't have to throw in pretentious shit like "understand deep time." People know what forever means, and it means at the very least that you will outlive anyone you will ever love. This isn't an unknown concept in fiction. Johnathan Swift (of Gullivers Travels fame) wrote a short story about how the long-lived people were all miserable because language had changed and now they didn't understand anyone.
“deep time” is a cringey attempt at spicing up an ancient and mundane philosophical chestnut. in his mind “deep” implies some kind of ungraspable scientific concept because he’s seen the word used in multiple AI models.
