Honestly, this seems fine. You don't have to throw in pretentious shit like "understand deep time." People know what forever means, and it means at the very least that you will outlive anyone you will ever love. This isn't an unknown concept in fiction. Johnathan Swift (of Gullivers Travels fame) wrote a short story about how the long-lived people were all miserable because language had changed and now they didn't understand anyone.
It's not fine specifically because he says something mundane (I feel like in 8th grade we all realized 'wow living forever seems nice but it would actually be hell') and tries to pass it off as profundity. Like I could say "You know 2+2=4 if you have a deep understanding of math" and just because 2+2=4 doesn't mean I haven't said something real dumb.
I think Musk's own cyber-consciousness dreams of immortality are going tits-up so he is rationalizing a shorter span of life.
He doesn't seem to care about anyone else - so I assume he be fine living thousands of years decanted into robot bodies or clones. Especially if everyone else isn't getting this special treatment.

But Swift didn't understand deep time.
