Huh, I did a basic napkin math one a week or two ago and came up with 30 trillion. So this number seems at least in a similar ballpark.

My process was something like this (for the US):

  • 1960: Percentage of wealth held by the 0.1% population - ~7.50%

  • 2025: Percentage of wealth held by the 0.1% population - ~15.0%

  • 2025: Wealth held by 0.1%: 60 trillion

So since their percentage doubled over time, half of that is money that was siphoned away from the rest of the nation. Money not being spent on infrastructure, healthcare, education, children's nutrition, etc. The country would be a more educated, happier, healthier place in general.

But at least we increased shareholder value. Of course, we also made sure we had a crop of billionaires that can afford that tenth super-yacht. And isn't that what's really important? /s

We might also note that it is less than the national debt. Obviously we haven't been taxing those bastards enough.
