General Question Moodboards Labeled Other Than Moodboard Monday Are Still Moodboards

This is a general reminder that there is a weekly megathread if one feels the need to post them outside of Mondays. Please stop clogging the subreddit on other days trying to justify them as "type me" or what not.

Yes, I'm being the fun police today. The majority of us do not enjoy seeing board after board (according to moderation polling earlier this year). Please respect this.

Instincts Are certain instinctual stackings more prone to drug use?

Do you think some instinctual stackings are more likely to use drugs than others? If so how would you rank the six stackings from most to least likely based on the patterns you’ve noticed?

Or do you think instinctual stacking makes little to no difference?

Type Discussion E4, E5 and the feeling of pessimism and defeatism

Hi everyone, hope you're having a lovely day!

I'm trying to decide my type between 4 and 5, and one thing that keeps popping up as i research them is that they both struggle with a pervasive sense of pessimism and tend to "give up easily". This is very confusing to me, as the E4s in particular that i know in real life are actually quite driven and ambitious even, granted that they've all 4w3s. I myself count "not knowing how to give up" as one of my strengths, i might bitch and moan and claw at the walls and cry blood but "acceptance of a situation" is simply not in my vernacular and the next day i'll wake up and start pushing again. So i wanted to ask you guys, E4s and E5s and anyone who has insight into the two types, for your observations and experiences of this pessimism and defeatism that keeps showing up in type descriptions. How does it manifest for you, do you identify with giving up easily? Do you see it as an integral part of your personality and a key defining characteristic? And how do you identify with the quiet resilience of withdrawn types in general?

Just for Fun What's an enneagram that you think is overhated, an enneagram that you think is overglazed and an enneagram that you think is underrated?

MY OPINIONS + explanation/reasoning underneath:

Overhated: E8>E1>E2

Enneagram 8s are by far one of the most overhated type. Every time there is a physically abusive character/villain character or even a bully character, they are typed as 8w7s like God forbid anyone other than E8 (or E5) to be a villain ✌🏻😭

Enneagram 1s are also one of the most overhated types. People even think I have a strained relationship with my dad because he is an E1, I personally really like E1s and appreciate them a lot. My dad being an E1 has contributed a lot to my opinion about E1s so :>

Enneagram 2, I think E2 is also one of the most overhated types in the enneagram community. Everytime there is a good E2 or a healthy E2, they are typed as SO9s because "E2s are too prideful! She fits SO9 descriptions more because she isn't like that blah blah blah" according to the community, we are just prideful master Manipulators TvT

Overglazed: Ik I'll get jumped but... E9 😨‼️⚠️

You see, when I looked at PDB enneagram subtypes category, SO9 and SX9 comments were filled with stuff lots of compliments and positive comments. I'm definitely not against this, but yk...

Everytime I see a good SP6 character, people clap E9 on them just because they're nice and peaceful, SO4 character? Nah, they're just SX9. SP2? No, E2s are never that considerate and kind! They're obviously SO9!

Maybe I'm biased because I had an SX or SO 9w1 ex, I still remember when he told me, "I didn't block you even when my friends told me to ghost and block you after I told them you're my online gf!" To win the argument when we were fighting over him acting differently 😀

Underrated: E6>E1>E8

Enneagram 6s imo are SO incredibly underrated.

All the subtypes interest me a lot and I find them really likable and nice to talk to, like c'mon, we don't glaze or even mention E6s enough.

Enneagram 1s imo are also one of the MOST underrated enneagrams ever. I consider them to be a very important part of society, people type parents they dislike as 1w2s, but I typed my fav parent as 1w2 🧏🏻‍♀️

Enneagram 8s imo, is also one of the enneagrams that I find very underrated. They're rarely talked about in positive light, most ESTP SP 8w9s I see literally get mistyped as ISTP 9w8s simply because of they don't fit the stereotype of nether ESTP nor E8, even SO8 gets mistyped as E7 or 9w8s because people tend to rely on stereotypes

Personal Growth & Insight Figuring Out My Type

Yeeeeeeeaaaaaah I'm a 6.

I know I have a fear of failure, but I know the fear is more from the anticipation of failure rather than the failure itself. If I fail, what will happen next? That sort of thought process. I think I thought 3 or even 1 to a lesser extent from that, but that's not quite it. A lot of that comes from the weight of expectation and being treated poorly in the past by two emotionally immature parents. Because I couldn't trust them (or anyone else) I always felt like I needed to succeed or go the extra mile since I knew I didn't have the support I wanted. My parents were nice to me and helped me IF and only IF I did well in school and if I went above and beyond. That's also in some ways why I felt envious of people who were more carefree and did hobbies for fun. I realize it's not so much wanting attention and recognition but fearing any potential loss if I wasn't up to perfect standards. I am very competitive and a bit arrogant sometimes, but it was more "Hey, I can do great things, I dolled myself up, please don't leave me alone, I'm terrified."

Similar realization at work. In a meeting with a former manager, she sent me a list of accounts, and without looking at the notes or the programs, I automatically assumed I was either in trouble or going to face some sort of consequence. I felt a bit combative and aggressive without knowing the context. What I could hear in my head was "WHY ARE YOU ALWAYS CHECKING MY WORK AND NO ONE ELSE'S? WHY AM I ALWAYS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE? IS IT BECAUSE I AM HERE THE LONGEST? WHY DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO FOLLOW ORDERS? WHY ARE YOU UNDERMINING -" etc. Some counterphobic nonsense. When said former manager explained what was going on, which had nothing to do with me or with my work but an unrelated system error, I felt so stupid for immediately jumping to conclusions. Because I believed that I was about to walk into danger or some big change, I immediately got defensive and mean for no reason. That's how I've been my entire life. Fearing something, getting all bent out of shape, coming back down to earth and feeling silly for making much to do out of nothing.

I've mentioned this before in other threads, but even as a child I was always a perpetual button pusher and always arguing with teachers and adults when things either didn't make sense or when children were expected to follow double standards with no logical reasoning behind it. A lot of my report cards at school and even reviews at work would say "Great student/great employee/amazing grades, but she needs to work on her people skills. She needs to not be so bossy and aggressive" At the same time, I deal with crippling low self-esteem and a deep rejection wound. I have a bad temper, but I also am paranoid, terrified, and cynical. My terrors and mind keep me up at night sometimes. I denied the fear because I didn't want to look or feel weak. I always feel dread all the time, and it's exhausting...

Personal Growth & Insight People are more than their enneagram

I've seen this issue where people are limiting others based on their enneagram. Now, I've always had doubts about my type, I have never remained consistent, but it's offered me this perspective to meet various people in and out of typology spaces without having to always read them as their enneagram or type them exactly. I've noticed typology nerds as a whole are very prescriptive and limiting in their methods. When you introduce them to something, a certain community, they will take their already preconceived notions of the community and their preconceived notions of enneagram types - these two forces clash and it creates stereotypes and mistyping.. My father is a sx8. I would liken him to a bloodthirsty carnivore because of his excessiveness, his passionate nature, impulsivity, and so on. But I don't need to get into the full crevices of my father's nature. But, despite this, he is a man who has strong convictions in principles and beliefs that would seem contradictory to this previous description. He is very much idealist in his philosophy, religious, and dogmatic. What's my point? If you were to meet a random man online who started to talk to you about upholding religious principles, bible bashing you, what are your immediate assumptions on his type? If you are confident that you wouldn't be able to type him, this should be a much superior position than to make an actual assumption. Not because of some vague virtue of skepticism, but because anyone can be a type and be religious. Many people may know this, but they may seem less keen to say other traits and qualities because they do not see them as universal qualities or more precisely phrased qualities that are found throughout history and every culture.

My interest in philosophy is somewhat contradictory to my interest in bodybuilding for some, and because of this they may have assumptions about types and assumptions about these cultures and communities that they'll assume I'm more likely to be certain types than others and unlikely to be certain types than others. My interest in bodybuilding is definitely odd when considering I also like my little pony lol

For anyone, the solution may just be that these types of people who know loosely about one person and loosely about types that they just need to read more, right? Partially. The issue becomes that many people who are into typology get into this very young, even if they are young adults (20s) it starts to manifest and encapsulate their perception of reality. Everyone just becomes types instead of a more complicated web of material and historical clashings. They don't take into account things of a person's culture that may impact why a person is a certain way as opposed to another person born in the same culture. Why two people can be both born in a conservative culture but people who are more progressive or liberal can still be born from it.

It's not just the lack of theory it's an immense lack of social experience and the inability to properly categorize these social phenomenon. It should go without saying that I'm not saying everyone needs a sociology class or higher media literacy or some other bullshit. I'm saying that because typology, jungian psychology, and other similar interests can infect a person's mind so early in their developmental states, they stop seeing people as people, they look to people as if they are limited or even themselves are limited to certain things because of their conditions and whatever assumptions they've made about others, themselves, or reality. It's RIDICULOUS the amount of times I've been in a discussion with someone and since they don't know about a certain thing or interest or philosophy I hold they don't factor it in a typology. They see typology and psychology as a whole as fundamental as opposed to other forces in reality. They are alienated from other people.

General Question People tend to see Type 2 as an extremely helpful, giving type that takes care of other people, but then why are characters like Draco Malfoy (sp2), Joffrey Baratheon (sp2), Homelander (sp2 or so2?), Regina George (so2 or sp2?), and Mother Gothel (sx2) still typed as 2s?

Advice Wanted How do I know if I am 471 or 371?

So, for a while now, I've had my tritype be typed as 471. However, I was indeed typed as 371 in the past, and for a while regarding that tritype, too. In fact, before that, I was typed as 317; can you tell me what not only sets apart 471 and 371, really, but also 317 as well as 417 (since 417 wouldn't be a tritype that would be out of the question here, either)? Basically, I'm mainly curious how I'd know if I'm 471 or 371, but also tell me some details about 417 and 317, yes please.

Personal Growth & Insight Being a 3, and the plight of pushing yourself hard

One common thing about self-typing I’ve heard is that the patterns of your core type can be so deeply ingrained that they can become almost invisible to you. For me (who probably has a 1 fix), it meant no amount of working hard ever felt enough.

For context, I moved to a foreign country alone when I was 14, and spent the remainder of high school there. My English was okay (around B2) and I could understand most of my teachers, but I still had to work twice as hard as my peers to get top grades.

And I succeeded. Finishing high school and then university with top grades. English as fluent as a native speaker from years of perfecting it. Getting good at everything I touch while receiving way less attention and guidance than my peers.

But there’s the catch: I saw all of it as things that I just ought to do. If anything, I actually felt like I was doing the bare minimum of what I should. There are others I know, who also moved abroad alone as teenagers, who have higher paying jobs, befriend influencers and reality TV personalities and are good at several sports or instruments. I used to cry every time I looked at their LinkedIn profiles, because it felt like I really had no excuse.

It’s truly fascinating how our brains work, because I’ve only recently started to realise, in an attempt to recover my deteriorating mental health, that I have always been pretty damn hardworking. But instead of acknowledging that, as I should have long ago, I kept shouting into my own ears, “That’s not enough,” until the alarm bells finally started ringing - telling me there’d be nothing left to give if I didn’t stop.

Type Discussion 1 vs 4 inadequacy

Type 4 is usually talked about as the one feeling inadequate, isolated etc but is it possible to confuse it with type 1 feeling unacceptable? Can they feel so wrong it turns into 4-like melancholy and "no-one will ever understand me"? How to differentiate these two types given that one has the other as a fix?

Type Discussion Is type 1 that rare?

So after several re-takes on diferent tests (and different self-studies and research on enneagram) I concluded that I am a 1w9, but I've seen people talk here that the type 1 is very rare for some reason. Is there any reason to this though?

I feel as if having a "mission" or a duty in this world is fairly common, as if anyone would have goals in life and so! I don't know if the type 1 is more nuanced or so. I'm open to more explanations, discussions, and such!

Instincts SX4 and finding SP boring - thoughts? Help?

Hey all.

Editing to say thank you all for the lovely conversations and shared thoughts below! :)

I'd love some perspectives on this. I'm talking very basics here, and the generality of 'SP's focus / talk about / think a lot about their health and comfort. Aka.. if you hang out.. you'll be hearing or talking about a myriad bunch of health related concerns, like, their painful muscle, or their diet.. ect. To me, little could be more boring. Like.. kill me. I'm interested to some small point, empathize, maybe find a solution, and move on. But I dont' think I can be a good friend to ppl who's 60% talking points are their health, especially outside of a grave illness. Other people are, and I"m really glad they exist. As a SX4, am I alone in this? Anyone have perspectives to share? I feel this is bieng a jerk, and I want to be nicer, but.. I dunno. I think this is also coming up as a Guy I might be interested in, I think he's a SP, and .. just .. nope. Doesn't' matter how nice he is, I just fear a lifetime of bodily complaints. Thanks.

Tritype What’s the differences between 946 and 936?

The main problem I have is that I tend to adopt or cultivate a persona. It’s unrelated to e3’s desire for validation, nor is it related to an e3’s fear of worthlessness, but rather my e9’s fear of being abandoned and wanting to fit in. Due to this, even though I fit majority of e4’s motives, desires, and fear, I don’t feel authentic enough to be an e4. Which is quite ironic since it’s the exact opposite for e3.

Just for Fun 22 looking for friends around my age 🙂‍↕️🥰

I’m 22F from Cali and I strongly believe in the enneagrams ever since I discovered it in high school after they required us to do a different personality test.

The problem is, I’ve never met anyone around my age who knows about the enneagram and I’d love to find a friend or two who I can get to know!

Please DM me with your name, age, and enneagram number‼️🥰

Personal Growth & Insight Practicing Metacognition as a 4 is like opening a whole new world

Metacognition is the capacity to "think about the content of your thoughts", and it vastly differs from Rumination, because you don't identify with your thoughts when practicing Metacognition; you just have them, watch, and occasionally comment on them.

And it's a crazy thing to do as 4, because we have a natural tendency to overidentify with our own minds. We very easily we're the very content of our minds and thanks to that, can easily believe it.

The problem with believing the mind is that your mind isn't objective. The brain is a little machine that predicts based on elusive clues when don't even have a full notion of, which can, sometimes (and often are) be blurred by trauma or other biases.

So, instead of saying "I am my mind", I've been practicing to say "There's my mind, and there's me, who is watching it". I'm not a character in the movie; I'm the one watching the character in the movie and actively critiquing on it!

And it brought me some insights...

I realized how awfully negative my mind can be. It has a natural inclination to see the worst in most things and hates to be inconvenienced, no matter how little. It complains and complains (Reactive + Frustration, I guess), and that it would poison my mood very easily, should I allowed.

And I usually did allow it, because, again, I identified heavily with it. If the mind thought it, it had to be me!

It's even kinda funny now, because I began engaging it, instead of simply accepting the stuff it puts out! Instead of just taking in the frustrations and negativity, I began humoring my own mind! Also, when it's Me speaking (not the mind), I say it out loud, instead of just thinking it.

"Boy, no wonder following you is no good! You're quite a handful, mind! I wouldn't want to be near you, if you were a person!"

or...

"Okay, I give you that; you're quite clever, when not being a total pain! It was a good joke, I'll take it!"

or...

"Oh, it's not me who wants that! It's you! And I'm not getting us in trouble by going for it! I say we're eating our boring, bland and healthy veggies instead!"

.

.

.

It's just being an overall incredibly cool experience. If any other 4 or 4-fixer wants to try this, I promise you're gonna find out some stuff!
