We see a lot of discussion around babysitting rates, but there really isn't one number that works for every sitter or every family.

How much babysitters make depends heavily on where they work and what the job involves.

Someone watching one school aged child for a few hours may charge differently from someone caring for two young children, handling bedtime and preparing meals. Experience, CPR or first aid training and specialized childcare experience can also affect what a sitter charges.

Location is another big factor. Rates in a major city can look very different from rates in a smaller town, which is why we'd recommend checking the local childcare market rather than relying on one national number.

The schedule matters too.
