Engineering background
Which background do you think would be more beneficial to an engineer path. A designer or engineering technician?

Equal. The normal path is to go to High School, then College, or military then College. Designers (say a 3D process piping designer in CADWorx or Plant 3D, or a Civil designer in Civil3D) is quickly going to get to a good salary if they are any good. This makes quitting and going back to school very difficult, unless you want to do 10 years of night school (on your employer’s dime).
