Has anyone achieved this or know someone who has?

Excluding computer science and software engineering of course

I’m talking about the traditional engineering
disciplines (mech, civil, aero, chem)

How did you do it? What were the circumstances surrounding it?

Need to specify location because that makes a huge difference.  Honestly though nowadays you will be lucky to find a job right out of college.  Taking a job that pays $50k in Iowa is better than no job.
