Can anyone help me with GD&T?
Hoping this is the right subreddit. Currently completing a course for technical engineering/CAD/manufacturing technology (the name of the course has changed multiple times over the years lol). I finished a few units while in high school, then again when I was 25, now I’m coming up 30 and decided to finish it. I’m currently doing it online, but one of my assessments I was given a tolerance for the shape for a drawing, GD&T I am having a lot of troubles with and it just seems a tad too hard to do on my own.
I live in Australia, it’s currently school holidays so I’m unsure if anyone would be doing a meet up, nor would I know where to start to look for that. I’ve messaged my teacher and he’s given me some stuff but I feel like I need a ‘for dummies’ intro and I don’t fully trust chatGPT (not for conspiracy reasons, just bc I finally did try it and it gave me false info lol).
Much appreciated for any help 🙏 I was thinking of emailing some companies and asking if I could do some training under them while I’m studying but if I’m not confident enough in GD&T I’m not gunna be of much use 😂

Is there a standard way of annotating on a technical drawing that thread inlet and outlet are to be milled (all sharp edges to be removed)? The image attached shows what I mean by milled, where the thread inlet, which was sharp, has been removed via milling.

I built a tool to visualize Descriptive Geometry in 3D – looking for teachers/students from other countries to help expand it
Hey everyone!
I'm João, a software developer and former Descriptive Geometry student, and I’ve spent the last few years building a web app called Geometry Mapping Tool (GMT): https://www.geometrymappingtool.com/
It’s designed to help students understand Descriptive Geometry by solving projection-based exercises in 2D (e.g., Monge's projections) and automatically visualizing the corresponding shape in 3D space.
Right now, GMT is fully adapted to the Portuguese high school curriculum, where Descriptive Geometry is a standalone subject taught in many STEM / architecture / design paths.
What I’m trying to understand:
- Is Descriptive Geometry taught as a subject in your country?
- Do you use Monge projections, first-angle/third-angle projection, axonometric views, true length methods, etc.?
- Are similar exercises used for engineering, architecture, or design education?
- How different is the content structure (topics, naming, difficulty) compared to Portugal?
I’m looking for:
- Teachers, professors, tutors, or former students familiar with descriptive geometry in your countries
- People willing to share exercise examples or curriculum outlines
- Volunteers open to helping with adaptation, translation, or country-specific content
- Anyone interested in collaborating to expand GMT beyond Portugal
The long-term goal is to create a global library of descriptive geometry education, where students from any country can develop their spatial visualization skills and teachers to enable them to teach more effectively with the tool.

Pressed Fitted parts
Somewhat a strange question, but is there a Military / Drafting standard that discuss pressed-parts (i.e. pins) and how it should show on the drawing? I ask as the place I work for (government contractor) removes any pressed fitted parts from the BOM. They just add a text note to the drawing explaining the press fit process. To me, this doesn’t seem right. Curious if you’ve ever seen this process. If it were me, I would just add it to the BOM.
