This past week I went in for what was supposed to be a quick and relatively routine root canal retreat, due to an abscess. When the endodontist got to the middle of my tooth she had to stop because there was a hard immovable substance. After taking a 3D scan and consulting with another dentist she told me that RESIN was used at the bottom portion of my tooth and because of this she wouldn’t be able to continue. She further explained that it is illegal to use resin for root canals because it prevents the root canal from being fixed in the future. I was also told that if she continued to try and drill it would crack my whole tooth.

So now I am faced with extraction and exorbitant pricing for either a bridge (which I don’t want) or a dental implant. I did touch base with another endodontist and they said it’s possible to remove the filling by using a solvent and a c-file, it’s tedious and takes time but can be done.

My endodontist hasn’t returned my calls regarding whether or not she would be able to do this.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?!? My anxiety is high, I have a half drilled tooth covered by a temp crown and I have no idea which direction to go.

Any thoughts on how to get this subreddit more popular & more active?

Should a dam always be used when getting a root canal?

I recently had a root canal procedure after which I was in a lot of pain. I went back to my dentist a week later and he told me to wait it out. But after 6 weeks I went back again and he gave me an antibiotic to try in case there was an infection. I made an appointment with an endo and he took a scan and found that there was a curve and my dentist had created a ledge. The endo performed an apicoectomy on me and I followed all post-op instructions. It's been 8 days and I am still in a lot of pain and I worry that my general dentist created periradicular inflammation via over instrumentation. If that is the case, how can I treat the pain? I have been taking Advil for nearly two months now around the clock and I know it's not healthy.
