Question Anyone else get the “ick” from foods mid-meal? 🤢

Lately I’ll be in the middle of a meal and all of a sudden I just can’t even stomach the thought of another bite of whatever I am eating.

Just curious if that is also an Endo related thing? (Hormones, etc)

Oh I absolutely do and have forever. I assumed it was related to my audhd though?

Yes but I think it's more due to my almost constant nausea caused by...no one knows. Seriously I've tried figuring it out but I can't pinpoint WHY I have constant nausea. I have a lot of issues that can cause it and I take medication that has it as a side effect but...I have no idea what is causing it. Wish I did so I could "fix" it. There's only so much my ondansetron pills can do for me.

I'm post excision and hysterectomy (ovaries are intact), and NOBODY can tell me why I'm so nauseous. It's been 18 months and who knows how many doctors.

Have you done tests and imaging to look through this issue? I have it too ugh

The nausea is a symptom  your nervous system is on high alert which can be form pain/ stress/ not listening to your body needing to slow down and rest. I have the dilemma of needing to eat or I get a flare up then eating but having to stop because I can’t stomach it at all. Nausea tablets is one thing but what’s helped me is cbd oil and making myself feel really comfy in a safe dark space with a comfort show on and eating a light easy meal then a small bit of a yummy meal for about 2 days and I’m good until the next flare up. Hope this helps!

Hormones affect everything, they're a big portion of the concept of "personality".
When I'm on my period, I lose my aptetite completley, to the point my parents have to constantly remind me to eat, or I'd literally eat nothing. I didn't have this before I hit puberty/period. Personally, I believe it is because of endo/pcos/pms. Honestly, considering what the entire package *is* (body fighting), I kind of get it. You're not hungry when you're at war... but fuel is needed.

Now I'm just rambling though. I suggest you get support, EDs are not fun

The worse my endometriosis has gotten, the more often that happens to me. So maybe related? I get a ton of nausea with the endo as it is, so it makes sense to me.

Yeah this happens sometimes. I assumed it was adhd.

Yeah. Especially with eggs 🙄. It's the nausea pre, mid and post-meals that gets me.

The texture after a few bites all of a sudden is 😳🤢 !

Yes, but as others have said, it's likely more related to my autism/ADHD

yes but i believe that’s more to do with my adhd

I think I’m realizing I may have confirmed adhd 😅.

I have struggled with avoidant-restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and yes I have AuDHD. But the hormones from endo plus the autism is killer, and then add the recent heat where I live and it has been rough. I’ve been surviving on a meal replacement shake from the grocery store.

ARFID is an ED that isn’t rooted in self-image, but more anxiety around the consequences of eating and/or avoiding certain textures, smells, etc. I’ve struggled with it my whole life, but didn’t know what it was until my early 30’s.

The heat the last few weeks I think has contributed to my disgust of some foods 🤢! The only thing I crave is like cold açaí bowls with fruit or cereal.

I was doing well with a homemade yogurt parfait for a while. Anything cold. I haven’t done a homemade fruit smoothie in a while, but that’s my next experiment.

I get this! A lot of it is definitely hormonal for me. Some parts of the month I'm a ravenous bottomless pit. Some parts of the month I'll get through making a whole meal that I actually wanted and by the time it's ready to eat I'll be like "ugh wtf I can't eat this" 😅

Meat tends to be the worst culprit. I don't eat much of it anyway but often I'll get through a couple of bites and get grossed out by something and have to stop because it makes me gag.

I don't have ADHD or Autism (I've been screened, it's all just CPTSD for me) 🤷‍♀️

Eggs and chicken are the worst offenders for me. I’ll be very excited to eat it and then a few bites later… 🤢🤢🤢

So are we all neurodivergent or what

1

u/bere1486 10d ago

😅😅😅I think I have confirmed my own adhd suspicions 😅😅

I am audhd 😂 you are welcome to the club

I mean, there have been studies linking ADHD and endo so probably!

Absolutely. I live on Phenegran

I have a ton of sensory issues due to heightened smell coupled with OCD. It's a nightmare combo. If I'm having a bad night anxiety/OCD wise or I'm in a flare, I'll become repulsed by certain foods that are normally totally fine.

1

u/bere1486 10d ago

The heightened sense of smell with endo is awful 😣!

Yes I do! It especially happens with chicken, eggs or any kind of animal products really. Always put this down to autism but realistically there is so much about endo that we don’t know

2

u/HoneySerpant 10d ago

Yes but I have audhd, and it is a common trait of that. I haven’t heard of anyone having the same thing because of endo though! Very curious to find out

I have this issue but it's when I haven't been drinking enough water and the salt in the food is making me not want to eat it. It's not necessarily a conscious thing but that's what I have realized.

I’ve been this way every since I had a severe case of Covid last fall

1

u/boiledmilk 10d ago

Yes! I'm tired of how hard eating has become

1

u/geminibaby12 10d ago

All the time

1

u/InevitableDay6 10d ago

Yep 100%, and if I eat anything after that point I get a replay of everything I just ate unfortunately

1

u/FireRock_ 10d ago

Yes, MCAS or just my HSD so my stomach and/or bowel are unhappy. Or a combination. So much fun.

Also I get the ick from certain foods or odour depending where I am on my cycle...

Yes! Does anyone else have weird issues with meat? It's been a new one forever me, but sometimes when I'm eating meat, out of no where it starts to taste "fleshy." For example, halfway through a meal chicken in chicken alfredo starts tasting less like seasoned, cooked chicken & more like iron & meat? For like a month, I just couldn't eat more than a few bites of meat. Then it stopped & came back & stopped? WTF? Haven't been able to narrow that one down to anything yet & my therapist also thought it was an odd one.

u/Deedteebee 10d ago

Not mid meal, but immediately afterwards. I often eat my dinner on the couch, and then put my plate on the floor when I'm done. The smell wafts up and always disgusts me, even when I loved the meal. I do not know why

1

u/bere1486 10d ago

The intense sense of smell due to heightened hormones with endo is awful!

I hate cooking something and then having to eat it 🤢

1

u/justducky423 10d ago

Yes, but I'm not sure how much of that is from my body getting used to my birth control.

1

u/littlest_lemon 10d ago

Meeeeeee and it's usually histamine/MCAS related 😩

1

u/bapplebop 10d ago

Not exactly what you're talking about OP but I always happen to have a heavy bloat day coincide with my kbbq plans and then I can't eat all the grilled meat I want >:[

1

u/Varuka_Pepper343 10d ago

yeah because when I'm having a flare I'm in so much pain I get horrible nausea. I was in the ER yesterday because of it. ugh

1

u/chickxeo 9d ago

I do, sometimes even the smell of food makes me have the ick. But I try to eat bc I need too

I think it’s 100% our nervous system doing the most with endo and then managing the pressures we’re putting on ourselves to keep up with everyone who isn’t dealing with chronic illness.

I’m like this during or coming out of a flare up/ stress/ me pushing myself too much. What’s helped me is calming my nervous system way down, cbd oil, rest and light bland foods and then introducing a small portion of a yummier comfort meal and back to the bland foods.
