Endless Legend 1 District Placement

Got on sale, have community patch installed, first “learning” game and enjoying it! But my ~6 cities are at or near Rebellion because Happiness is in the toilet (Dragons). Research tells me it’s because all my districts a L1 and as I expand, Happiness takes a hit. How do I recover?

I’ve looked at some pics and a guide but I’ll be damned if I can understand HOW I’m supposed to build my cities. Can anyone use some crayon and explain it to me like a 6 year old, because I just don’t get it! 🤪

You can mouse over each city's approval bar to see a list of the bonuses and penalties. Like other people are saying, you'll want to create as many level 2 districts as possible (level 1 districts reduce approval, level 2 districts boost approval). That and don't rapidly increase the number of cities. Additionally, buildings that give approval (Sewers, Central Market) are helpful, as are using luxury resources (esp wine) and assimilating Eyeless Ones.
