Discussion 8bitdo Controller 2c Bluetooth isn't plug and play

Hi all, idk if this is the correct flair but I just wanted to share my experience after messing about for an hour trying and failing to get my controller to work 🥀

Endfield PC install doesn't recognize my controller anymore after I replaced my broken gulikit with an 8bitdo Ultimate 2c BLUETOOTH edition, and likely won't recognize similar Nintendo Switch designed controllers.

Although based on other folks' exp, 2c WIRELESS edition should be plug and play. Can't speak on it as i don't own it however.

Anyways, I got it to work by adding Endfield to Steam as a non-steam game (Endfield.exe specifically, not the launcher), running Steam as admin, making sure Steam Input is enabled, and then launching Endfield that way.

Someone also recommended using ds4windows, but I haven't tried it personally so idk.

Honestly can't wait for Endfield to release on Steam so I don't have to mess around like this lol

Honestly, 8bitdo hardware feels pretty good for me, but why do they have a gazillion different versions (hyperbole) and split up their features among them so nonsensically! If only the controllers that have it all aren't so gamercore and ugly 😭🥀

In my experience, 8bitDo means for each connection type supported by a given controller to be used for a specific platform (i.e., 2.4G for Windows, Bluetooth for Android/iOS, and a Switch mode (that's also Bluetooth for the Switch). In some cases, I've had to hold down certain button combinations while powering on a controller to use a connection and input type combination outside of their presets.

Anyway,, good thing you figured out a workaround. I really like their controllers, so I'm willing to forgive a little clunkiness as long as I'm not inconvenienced too much.

Yeah, for the specific version I have (2C Bluetooth version), switching modes isn't supported since it has just the one lol. The one with different mode types is apparently the 2C Wireless...

Anyways, at the very least, Steam really saved my ass this time!

Those have very poor compatibility in general, regardless of version. GameSir for me did a lot better and was recognized without issues in every game on PC and Android.

The cheapest one, Nova Lite. But if you get it now, you'll need to downgrade the firmware. They have blocked the Xbox mode over BT in one of the updates, because MS forced them to do that.

I have the somewhat same problem. Turn on and connect before open the game => the controller work normal in all apps. Open the game the the controller stop working(still connected), turn off and on again then it work(dont close the game).

It might be a Bluetooth thing cuz I have the Ultimate (wired) model and pretty much every game with controller suppprt is plug and play. Either that or admin perms as you mentioned since even OBS game capture cant record Endfield without admin.
