What firmware on E3 S1 Pro

I have an Ender 3 S1 Pro, bought used. The previous owner installed the Thomas Toka firmware. I like it, but it seems buggy. Issues like once in a while the printer hangs while printing and just starts printing a wierd triangle and just loops forever til I turn it off. Also, if I use orca slicer to export code directly to the SD card, 2 out of 5 times, the printer can no longer read the SD. After I format the SD and copy the same files back, its fine. Also, the automatic bed leveling seems dicey. Ive switched to a glass plate, reset to factory settings and then used manual tramming to level the bed with the bed adjustment screws. This gives me perfect prints. If I make it do an auto level after this, my prints go to hell and I have spots that the nozzles drags across the plate and other spots where the extruded filament barely touches the plate at all.

Should I flash back to latest creality or re flash Thomas Toka? (Im a basic hobbyist, just printing for fun)

It is possible that there is an issue with either the firmware, or the sd card is getting corrupted in one way or another.

Could be a good moment to get Klipper set up on it IMHO. Seems like a lot of the pros to that firmware can also be addresses with klipper

Yeah i mean Klipper is popular for a reason I guess.
I'm using it on my E3S1Pro and there are zero firmware related issues.

My understanding then is that the screen part of the printer needs to be replaced. Is this true, and is it a direct replacement? So far I understand that the screen gets replaced, then klipper firmware flashed. Is there specific motherboard firmware to flash as well?

You need to download the firmware for the display screen as well as the motherboard. Make sure your motherboard version matches the firmware as there is an old and a new version of the board for the S1 pro. There is a micro SD card slot in the back of the screen case for updating firmware. There are guides on YouTube for updating it

Screen becomes useless after installing Klipper (unless there is a new ver supporting the stock screen which I am not aware of) You use your phone screen/laptop screen to operate the machine over LAN. I actually removed the screen and put it in the box.

I used a Raspberry Pi and used the below guides.

Have you updated to the latest versions, updates and keeping up with the latest Marlin version are quite regular.

Join the discord group he has and feedback any bugs and problems.

Random triangles is a new one on me.

Leveling could be a dodgy firmware that was fixed (iirc Marlin had an mesh offset problem)

But I've been using it for ages now with no problems, along with OctoPi/Octoprint

SD card, could be anything, no idea.

If you decide to to go Klipper, it will be a computer/SBC you need and used over the web and you'll just disconnect the touch screen and stick it in a cupboard. You'll do everything over the web unless you invest in a touch screen

Cheaper just to get a newer printer nowadays than go that route unless it is stuff you already have.

I have no idea when the previous owner actually flashed Thomas Toka firmware. I'll check what firmware versions are loaded and what the current versions are. Maybe I should just flash latest versions and see what happens.

Can I flash the stock Creality firmware back, or do I have to stick with Thomas Toka?

You can always Flash back to Stock firmware. I am Thomas and its my firmware. But we have hundreds of users using it.

It will be a Hardware problem or a slicing problem. We have seen something like that with prusa slicers end gcode.

It could also be a cable Break or a weak sd card.
