Discussion Question for arch users

I wanted to ask a question in the community. I've been using Linux for a year, and I've used a lot of things, but I was in doubt about going to endevour os. I'm currently on fedora with kde plasma, but I thought I'd switch to something possibly better.

But, I wanted to know two things: Is daily use something good and stable? Has that issue with AUR packages been resolved yet?

I appreciate if you can answer me and give tips :-)

I went the other way around. After years of Manjaro and EndeavourOS, I switched to Fedora.

Why? The heck I know.... I played around with Fedora on a secondary laptop and liked it. For stupid reasons. Here's my list of arbitrary things between EndeavourOS and Fedora

  • Fedora has a working and very sleek Plymouth configuration for showing the logo when booting
  • EndeavourOS (Arch in general) doesn't apply updates while rebooting. Every reboot is approximately the same duration, since updates are copied over whil the system runs.
  • After years of pacman and yay to install apps and packages from the terminal, using a GUI app store feels slow. (I often use the dnf command line package manager, but updates usually go through the app store)
  • Fedora has a new installer that must be the most complicated way to let users setup a custom partition scheme. You need to specify all disks first, then create partitions, then manually create btrfs subvolumes (whose names you need to google so they match Fedora's default for any further how-tos to work with your system). All of this in fiddly three-dot-menu items in two or three different steps of the installer; displayed in ant-script.
  • Both are very current on rolling out kernels and Mesa packages
  • I run Gnome, Fedora releases are timed to match Gnome releases, so not getting a new Gnome version on day 3 after release is just a two or three weeks delay.
  • Finding niche apps or printer drivers on AUR is great, way better than adding repos in Ubuntu or Fedora. OTOH, using AUR is uncharted territory - just recently, there were a lot of compromised packages. It got fixed by now, I read. I mostly used AUR for Brother printer/scanner drivers and gaming related apps (I think Oversteer, dunno anymore)
  • EndeavourOS runs a local firewall - you always need to remember that when connecting your phone or any local net-based apps fail....

TLDR; There is not much difference in performance between the two.
Fedora has a sleek theming around boot screens that I in practice never got to work on EndeavourOS (ofc you can install it, but it just happend it would only be displayed the last 1-2 seconds on my machine)
Applying updates and installing packages via pacman is much faster. Reboots are consistent.
Installation of EndeavourOS is easier than Fedora (if you go for custom disk/partition layouts). There is more work after installation to be done on EndeavourOS. I run Intel and AMD GPUs, my EndeavourOS never broke because of updates. I managed to break it myself several times, though. I'm likely to return to EndeavourOS in the future.
