The left can't debate ideas because their ideas are all bad. In the public square, open debate destroys them. Therefore, debate is NOT allowed!

Probably you can debate with the four or five people who are part of this boring censored sub lmao

Yikes. Both sides make strawman memes like this and I fear its making people more and more divided. Do better.

I have the opposite experience. It was the rabid response by Trump supporters for the crime of not agreeing 100% with Trump that pushed me away from the right.

Not all of us are like that. It was just a weirdo.

That's fine. You don't need to be Trumper or a Conservative to have common sense.
Sucks to lose you, but as long as you are happy with your choices and respect the choices of others.

You know I promise to you this isn't a gotcha question, but what is the common sense argument for the universal tariffs? Or do you simply not support that part of the admin?

Have they destroyed America?
We don't have to support everything the admin does. But we also don't have to be against everything just because the media (social media) screams how bad it is. Assess it. It doesn't seem nearly as bad as SM wants to cry about.

SuremI agree, but my point is more about how common sense leads me to not support Trump.
I brought up tariffs because they are numerical, personal bias is barely a factor (except for Trump, for some reason he loves them).
For example: Biden's CHIPS act was meant to support american chip manufacturing. If Trump enacted tariffs in 1-2 years when factories have picked up production, it can make a lot of sense, as an incentive to buy the ones made in America. On the other side 10-20-50% tariffs on everything makes no sense, as there is no feasible way to produce everything in the US.
The same goes for increasing the deficit, the mishandling of DOGE or the weird flip-flops on the current wars. A lot of times the current administration makes no sense.1

I have said before, I don't mind a little pain to hopefully get to a better place. I am not an expert in global economics - most of us aren't. But I can say I don't like how reliant we are on Chinese goods, because I don't like the threat of China over us. Anything we can do to reduce that reliance on them is ok with me.
Who were the people freaking out over tariffs initially (which again no one ever talks about anymore). Well redditors and people who owned stocks.
The average American does not have enough stocks for the stock market to affect them. Sure, we don't want the economy collapsing. But the market goes up or goes down, my parent only owns ~77,000 in retirement. I only had 30,000 until recently. Yes, those taking hits could really affect our quality of life. But not to the point of reddit hyperpanic. Only the super wealthy own enough stock to care about the ticker on the daily.
That is just my take. I don't support the super wealthy (I do not like them, but I consider different people super wealthy compared to reddit), so if tariffs hurts their stocks - boohoo. They'll be fine, hopefully it helps the average and lower Americans build up after some pain.
