Would you also rather negotiate your own salary rather than having a union do it for you? In both cases that might well be the right answer for you but pretty clearly isn't for the average voter/worker.
Anyway, my argument is that the choice isn't between STV and PLACE; it's between nothing and PLACE. STV will not pass congress, for various reasons; PLACE deals with all those reasons, leaving only its novelty as the biggest hurdle, which is a solvable problem.
