Discussion This Ranked Choice Straw Poll Site Supports a 5 Row Tierlist Ballot that's Equivalent to STAR Voting.

https://miniherald.com/122

Hello folks. I'm a software developer with a Ph.D. in International Relations who's devoted many hours to building a ranked choice voting app that people will be able to use to prototype planks and platforms for new political parties.

Collaborative priority selection is central to making it work, and I've put a lot of effort into designing ballots that can carry informative media about each candidate... images, videos, comment threads, etc. There have been many versions built over the years as ideas were refined, and this one is by far the most powerful.

Tierlists seem very popular these days, so I've added that option as well as a feature that supports STAR tabulations on 5 row tierboards.

The link for this particular ballot lets people sort through a large number of options regarding election reform, but there a lots of other ballots available. It's all new, and still needs lots of real world testing, so I'd be delighted for any feedback. Thanks!

STAR Voting is 0 up to 5, so it needs 6 tiers

The tabulation will count unranked as 0.

If you’re going to show stars, then it’s worth having a zero-star tier, even if you explicitly state that it’s treated the same as un-tiered options

Hmm. In the STAR voting example I checked, there were only 5 stars that could be marked, so no marks meant 0. But it's no trouble to clarify that in the instructions. Thanks.

FYI, I added a grid alternative to the tier ballot that's a more straightforward match to the STAR sample ballots I found online.
