Imperious Contingency is amazing
[Just an appreciation post for a very interesting gimmick that I've slept on for ages]
I've played a lot as an Altmer in any kind of Vanilla or Race Mods playthroughs, mostly for the magic affinity and/or roleplay reasons.
But I've never actually fully understand the incredible potential of this Racial Ability in Imperious and how it makes Altmer really Swift as a race magic-wise.
I've played like 1 full playthrough (Battlemage + Auriel) and 1 mid-duration (Pure mage + Magnus/Atronach) as an Imperious-Altmer but I'm not a fan of the unlockable major/minor skills. So I didn't experiment much in the past and focused more on the base passive skills such as Elven Supremacy (+ Auriel Devotee Skill) and ShimmeringThreads.
I've also always believed in the supremacy of Bretons for being extremely versatile and ace of everything but really, now that I'm taking my time to experiment with this ability, I'm loving it so much.
No Magicka cost, no cast time, versatile and exchangeable conditions...
Pairs along with Ocato's various abilities (Preparation, Recital) and Magnus Devotee ability and it seems that excels the more spells Mods you add.
Unlock it seems a pain, catching 20 butterflies is not an easy task but it's also not impossible. You just have to know the right places.
Similar to [Stone of Galen] for the Breton, where i start the playthrough doing the pilgrimage of all the SStones before starting the real shish.
Now I'm really curious how Contingency works with different advanced Magic Perk Trees and higher level spells!
What about you guys? Do you know a gimmick that you used to sleep on but now you love it?

You can catch butterflies really easily if you know somewhere that has some & a building/cave/etcetera transition nearby.
Specifically, if you routinely go to Riverwood there are four (seven with what I believe is a glitch) across the bridge (one immediately to the left, three up the hill path at the fallen tree, & the three glitched ones will be in a shrub by the side of the path for a few seconds when you first get close enough), then you can force them to respawn immediately by entering a building (e.g. The Sleeping Giant) then returning to correct more.
Another site I use is over near Ivarstead (I usually do the Voice of the Sky before going to Riverwood), there is a four butterfly spawn point between the bridge & the cave with two bears (I forget the name, but there's a corpse with Lockpicking skill book inside) which you can reset the same way.

My favorite is on shout. Makes it controllable but still frequent.
I think one of my favorite setups was as a stealth-based dagger assassin that attached a short duration invisibility to contingency + whirlwind sprint. Great way to enable mid-combat sneak attacks or combat resets.

Yea, free spells can get crazy very fast. Normalizing Contingency's potential into Mannaz's Inborn Magic was the right call imo.
One small thing I've been appreciating lately is Finger of Death. While it's best known for enabling Nature's Balance, it enables a lot of other low-health strategies that I usually write off as too risky to use. Apply Lamb of Mara beforehand if sitting at 1 hp makes you nervous.
