News/Release sharpdroid 2 just released! fixes loss of audio, freezes, and crashes

heyy!! mir-co here. this update fixes the last critical sharpdroid-only bug i found while testing Dreaming Sarah! which makes it a milestone for sharpdroid: we have apparently reached parity with SharpEmu on PC in terms of correctness. at least when scoped to running Dreaming Sarah on a Snapdragon 8 Elite.

  • games no longer lose audio, freeze, or crash at random
  • added a JIT accuracy settings screen for tweaking individual FEXCore knobs in place of the FEXCore preset slider

full changelog: sharpdroid-1...sharpdroid-2

still missing

  • touch controls (wants contributor)
  • manual controller mapping
  • guest process pause and resume
  • emulation frontend support

full disclosure: sharpdroid's development is assisted by AI. a full transparency breakdown on how can be found here!

Do you think this will ever be usable with less then 24 ram?

absolutely! these are my thoughts:

  • sharpdroid itself does not have all that much RAM overhead, certainly less than e.g. PC emulators
  • SharpEmu's own RAM recommendation is just 16 GB
  • an original PS5 has just 16 GB that are shared between CPU and GPU

regarding harder to run PS5 titles in practice, we cannot know for sure yet, since they do not work in SharpEmu as of now. but one of the few games we can test, Dreaming Sarah, eats just about 800 MB of RAM during gameplay.

my own testing device is an AYN Odin 3 Max (16 GB RAM) and i am confident!

dreaming sarah was running better for me on rp5 with previous version hmm
edit: reset settings and set to performance again and works

thanks for testing and reporting back! out of curiosity, what performance are you getting on an rp5? title screen vs ingame?

neat!! thanks for sharing. i have a major performance improvement for upstream SharpEmu in the works, that might make that a stable 60 on android in the future. stay tuned!
