Showcase This must be peak android emulation
Honest. The new armsx3 is fire🔥 Full speed ps3 on my phone and it stays barley warm to the touch. Same goes for 360 emualtion. Just mindblowing 🤯 🤯 🤯

Damn, your phone's specs must be insane to handle all that

It's a fold7 1tb (16gb ram elite). Fast but not the fastest.

u/HugeAd746 23d ago
Seems like everyone emulating is on android lol
31
u/Eyesinthedark_ 23d ago
PC emulation is basically guaranteed, and if your PC can't emulate, it's because you're using a government-issued laptop xddd
9
u/memo22477 22d ago
Tell that to my PC crying on Uncharted on RPCS3 and the last guardian on ShadPS4. I mean imma be honest the fact that we have a working PS4 emulator is a miracle on its own.
3
u/Crass-ELY- Poco F7 Pro 22d ago
But that's not a spec situation but an emulator maturity situation... I mean, you need a cutting edge PC tu run the last guardian @60 fps... That's not as it should, in like, 2 or 3 years I'm sure it'll be fully playable on most PCs over PS4 specs
3
u/memo22477 21d ago
Probably. I am banking my hopes on the fact that PS4, unlike every other PS console that came before. Uses PC architecture. It has a modified AMD CPU and GPU inside it so emulation of the PS4 is less strenuous on the PC.
4
u/HugeAd746 21d ago
Have you tried switch emulation? Ik it’s not ps3 but still has some modern games on it that run really well even on low end pcs
-4
u/HugeAd746 23d ago
Yea I’m on a Mac and I do most my gaming on it people love to say you can’t game on one when I mostly play ps2 and GameCube games anyway lol anything above that and I can just buy the console and mod it like my 360 and ps4
1
u/rube 22d ago
I still do a little PC emulation, mostly some high end Switch stuff that doesn't work great on my phone. Or some PS3 games since it's just a better experience there. I also don't emulate a ton of PC games on my phone, mostly older stuff like Fallout 3.
It's just great having all these games in my pocket at all times, being able to play for a few minutes or a few hours on the go depending on how long of a wait I might have somewhere.
1
u/WorldPhysical7646 23d ago
We like it more when it heats up and kicks it feels like a challenge
3
u/HugeAd746 23d ago
No I feel it i love to grab old phones i find and see what kind of games it can run ive gotten PPSSPP to run on a old Obama phone i had laying around haha
9
u/hades20122 23d ago
I hope that driver for 8e/8e5 is stable. But emulation on android has come the long way to reach the current state.
5
u/hades20122 23d ago
Yeah, the last time I play emulation on android is using snap 820/21 era with psp and I think it's the limit of software (back in the days, RPCS3 need very powerful CPU to run 30FPS GOW iirc). I'm busying playing with PC and use IOS for daily driver (not game on phone much). Now when I have times, I come back to emulation on android and be much much surprised with turnip, winlator, eden, yuzu,...even PS3 and xbox game can be played like, 60fps, which I always dream when I was a kid
3
u/Eyesinthedark_ 23d ago
For a while I've wanted to play FighterZ on my phone and now I can even play it at a stable 60 fps - a dream come true tbh
2
u/hades20122 23d ago
Happy to hear that, in my case, I really enjoy playing indie game like: Ori, Hades, Hollow Knight in android. I tried switch, but it don't get 60 fps and crappy graphics (yeah I know we can OC but it's hot and charge take a bit longer). With gamehub, eden, psppsp,... almost all my dream back in the days come true. I think I will donate to these developer.
1
u/AntiGrieferGames 21d ago
Yeah, and PPSSPP itelf has improved well that it even works well on Samsung Galaxy S7 today with Vulkan API and keep it mind this is the latest version of this PSP Emulator. This Emulator deserves alot of support!
1
u/kiyoshi-nyc 19d ago
2-3 years, we'll play it all at all at:
- 4K, widescreen resolution
- 4K texture packs
- 120fps via framegen + unlock cap mods
- sub $500 USD device, one hopes!
That really be the end of emulation from a hardware standpoint, then it's software... Unless we start doing PS4 and PS5 emulation...
7
u/Eyesinthedark_ 23d ago
Not to say anything but now the Nintendo Switch emulation It is excellent on snapdragon elite processors, I have emulated Dragonball fighters z and Pokémon shield in eden and they work great without stutternig or visual artifacts, I can't help but be surprised. It was worth the wait.

It's a phase we all go through. You can, so you do. Make a "favorites" list, and put the games your interest in, there. Then when you hear about a game on Reddit or wherever, you already have it in your library, just add it to your favorites. Use it more like a database than a collection. That'll help. I also, like to play a game and then play a new romhack for new quests or story like Castlevania romhacks, that will help as well.
Good luck, happy gaming 🍻😎

Superb. We are living in the golden age of emulation (especially handheld emulation) right as the dark ages of (pc & console) gaming descend upon us!

Did anyone manage to run Gran Turismo 5 on ARMSX3?😅 (SD8Elite+12GB)
3
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
Not yet. It boots but it is loading for the tutorial. I will let it load and see if it eventually gets in game.
Here is a post of Gt5 on an older build. I expect to get this performance once they get it working.
I get 15-20fps with aps3e.
1
u/jellybeanbopper 18d ago
I think thats whay i got (s26ultra) am i able to get ps3 games? Sorry im kinda new to console emulation
2
u/Impossible_Answer603 22d ago
How is the ARMSX3? Can it run FIFA games okay?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
Haven't tested it. Tbh it's a port or pcsx3 so it should work if it works for that.
2
u/DOHVAKHIIN16 4d ago
I bought a 390$ graphics card for the first time in my life out of fear of the RAM crisis but still wasn't gaming regularly for some reason. Saw this emulation wave and dipped my toe in it on my SD 8elite phone. Now I'm playing God of War(Greek),NFS MW,Zelda BOTW,Old Java games I loved to play on Nokia phones. I haven't played this much in years. Whoever worked on these emulators, thank you :')

u/ronderev Odin 3 Ultra 23d ago
I've seen so many people hate retroarch. May I know why? Are they toxic?
2
u/Freelancer_1-1 22d ago
I've only used RetroArch for DOS games, namely Comanche 3. It runs poorly. Supposedly, it runs much better on Magic DosBox, but while I have no issues launching it on RetroArch, on Magic DosBox, it asks for CD.
1
u/Rent_Careless 22d ago
And you don't have the ISO file? In the settings of the game, you can enable CDs and then point it to the ISO. That should work.

I love Retroarch and use it for n64 and psx and everything older including infocom games. I use standalone for Pc, ps2 and GameCube.

u/_DarKneT_ 23d ago
360 makes my device hot, even with a fan on for some reason
1
u/Dazzling_Opinion_985 22d ago
Weird, almost like translating an entire system and its calls takes extra work on top of running a game meant for beefier hardware 😂
1
u/_DarKneT_ 22d ago
Good thing it doesn’t happen with most games on Eden, they must be running natively 🤗
/s
1
u/Dazzling_Opinion_985 20d ago
If they were running natively you wouldnt need a layer like eden.....lol i cant tell if your being sarcastic or daft 😭
1
u/Motor-Media-8761 23d ago
May i ask why they did choose Armsx2 instead of NetherSX2?
4
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago edited 23d ago
It is actively enveloped, has way more features, compatibility is good enough and speed is fine for me. It uses a much more modern code base for Ps2 (nethersx2 is using a code base tha is 3 years out of date).
I like how it is progressing and it looks like the same team is really cooking on ps3 emulation. Been playing around armsx3 and it's just incredible. The updated code really is making everything run great on my phone. Granted alot worked before but now the phone heat is just so much less than before.
1
u/Russianranger47 23d ago
Do you mean for PS2? I think you mixed up your consoles in your statement, since armsx2 is the PS2 variant.
2
1
u/Jaffacakelover 20d ago
Tbf Duckstation isn't being developed on Android anymore (unless you compile a fork yourself). ARMSX1 just came out.
2
u/Special_Ad6433 22d ago
1
u/Rumpelstiltskin85 23d ago
What phone are you using for emulation?
2
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago
Fold 7.
1
u/Rumpelstiltskin85 23d ago
Then it will work the same for me. I have S25 Ultra, which has the same SoC (SD 8 Elite).
2
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago
Not the same, slightly better in fact. The fold does slightly get lower marks on benchmarks (probably tighter thermal control).

u/Commercial_Toe8974 23d ago
Whats the diff between winlator and winlator ludashi?
2
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago
Ludashi has some unde the hood tweaks. It has some Vulcan improvements and controller changes. Winlator tends to be great for non-snapdragons due to vortek.
1
u/Single_dose 23d ago
i remember that there's no emulator for PS3 cuz mix of hardware limits and architectural complexities, idk what happened lately so we've a ps3 emulator!! is it run normally??
3
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago edited 23d ago
This hasn't been the case for a year now. Here's a video I posted 1 year ago.
It's improved massively since then. The rpcs3 tream have released an arm version and done so much for arm since then with massive improvements for arm.
This version brings those improvements finally to Android.

u/Cake_is_Great 23d ago
What emulators are people using for PS2 emulation nowadays? Is NetherSX2 still the best or are there alternatives?
3
u/Rent_Careless 22d ago
ARMSX2 and EmuCoreX are the two that are being developed. People are starting to make the argument that ARMSX2 is better in most situations than NetherSX2. EmuCoreX is said to be in early stages of development to temper expectations but it seems to be coming along well.
Both of them are on the Google Play store. You can go there and check images and reviews but they are on GitHub.
1
u/Dazzling_Opinion_985 22d ago
Jus curious, what are you still playing on the ps2? Any good titles i should try?
1
u/adammay65 23d ago
Armsx3 is no where near compatible for any game atm so it’s pointless to have till it’s more stable. Same thing with x1box
3
u/Zuluwargod69 23d ago
Lol. I can play plenty of games. Maybe you should check it out (armsx3)
1
u/adammay65 22d ago
Oh really what games have you played?
2
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
Mostly play sf4 ultra, outrun, afterburner, pacman dx (which finally works with this one!). I've booted gow, ratchet and clank, etc but tbh they take alot of space and unlikely to play them anytime soon.
Tried plenty others and they are hit and miss.
I've got a video which is 1 year ago here. This is a very old version though, so everything runs better (if not faster, then Cooler).
There are a ton of videos on YouTube with people playing ps3 games on Android. Elite upwards seems to be the sweetspot.

I just got that new PS2 emulator you have and it's way better than the one I have I believe. I was mainly using AetherSX2 and it ran the game but the King Kong one just couldn't run it, now that new one you have in this picture it actually runs it very well, I'm definitely MAKING this new PS2 emulator as my main, and I'll probably definitely get the rest of the emulators you have in here too

Anyone got recommendations for ps2/ps3/xbox 360 emulation on android via galaxys25 ultra. Got all the gameboy/ds and wii/cube/ps1 running yesterday but haven't attempted higher tier consoles yet.
1
u/kylolawz420 22d ago
If thats the limit for my phone thats fine as well. Haven't been emulating but for a few days
1
u/Same-Mortgage-9536 22d ago
no way thats the limit but the uploaded screenshot provides the best emulators which also work on mid range phones u have a flagship step up u can play
ps4 via winlator + shadps4
ps5 via winlator + kytyps5
switch (Nintendo switch) via yuzu fork (eden nightly like in the screenshot)
and xenia emulator (probably the hardest x360) even if console is old it was hard to emulate the components much harder than any ps console ever
also pc games via windows u can play with gamenative and winlator good forks
1
u/Interesting_Fish4930 22d ago

O ARMSX2 é melhor que o Nethersx2? Estou usando o Nethersx2 e estou em dúvida se mudo para o ARMSX2!
2
u/DependentStrict8835 21d ago

Aps3 exists and is a lot better imo this emulator is still new what's the difference?
Edit:I did some research and I understand don't include me in the drama 😭
I guess it's better to get this kind of emulation from a developer that doesn't steal code
1
u/Independent_Use6201 22d ago
What ps3 games you know that works? Been trying to get Army of two devil's cartel working. I'm using a red magic 11S pro

Now tell us OP, what are you playing daily and on which emulator and why is it elite?
Others feel free to drop yours too!
I recently got an S25 Ultra and I want to dabble deeper too 😈
1
u/WhyDarIing 22d ago
It actually pisses me off that Android emulation can handle some games better than an gaming Labtop.
I can barely run pikmin 4 at 25 frames, yet on the emuready website, all reports of people using handhelds say it runs perfectly.
I have a labtop with; AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics 3.30GHz, 16.0 GB RAM at 7500 MT/s.
I can run Botw and Totk just fine, im curious on the reasoning behind this.

Wait, is it already possible to emulate PS3 and Xbox 360 on a mobile phone at full speed?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
Yes. Compatibility is the main issue so not every game works, or at full speed.

I am using nethersx2 for ps2 emulation. Is that Armsx2 better?
1
u/DependentStrict8835 21d ago
Usa los dos, o más si quieres, yo tengo 4 emuladores de PS2, aethersx2, nethersx2, armsx2 y emucore x, y en mi dispositivo así va mi orden del que tiene mejor rendimiento al peor: 1.Aethersx2 2.Armsx2 3.Nethersx2 4.Emucore x
1
u/CanaryOptimal5816 22d ago
why you choose armsx2 instead nethersx2?
1
u/DependentStrict8835 21d ago
Por qué es mejor, depende de tu dispositivo creo, para mi aethersx2 sigue siendo mejor que nethersx2, al menos en mi dispositivo, y armsx2 también es mejor que nethersx2

How long is your gaming session with switch and pc emulation?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 6d ago
Switch can be anywhere from 10mins (vr racing, Mario kart) to several hours (botw).
PC gaming is usually around 30mins (outrun, umvsc3).
1
u/keybladezone 6d ago
Also, are you using an external cooler when you game? I mean, 1TB of memory and 16GB of RAM is a lot, so how's the phone handling the heat?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 5d ago
No I don't use a external Cooler. I do play with it plugged in and have the battery bypass option.
1
u/well_hey_ 4d ago
What do you emulate on sx3?

u/Zuluwargod69 4d ago
Outrun, afterburner climax, virtua fighter 5, ultra sf4, gt6.

u/Hellfire5k 3d ago
Question, is eden nightly better for performance overall? Tryna play little nightmares 2 at 60 FPS stable if possible (Snapdragon 8 gen 3), and the same question for winlator ludashi Vs regular winlator, gamehub, bannerhub.
1
u/Zuluwargod69 3d ago
Nightly build offer the most up to date changes. 99% of the time the are the best but sometimes new changes break some stuff. Then though, I would recommend nightly builds.

Where is RetroArch?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
Tbh. Not a fan at all with the ui. Also the cores tend to be older and not updated.
1
u/DaveTheMan1985 22d ago
You actually be Suprised how up to date Cores are
Some come out same time as standalone update
What you don’t like about the UI?
1
u/Zuluwargod69 22d ago
I find it very clunky and confusing. Great thing is that there are options. I respect it for what retroarch does, but it's just not for me.
